I am looking for another truck, can't drive the gto all winter. I want to build something capable in the woods. I have done it before and miss off roading. Drkmelvin and I used to go all the time, he now has a 4 wheel drive truck and we have been talking about going again. Anybody else interested?

so, i'm wicked good friends with this kid .. he's like my brother. recently, he put in about 4,000 dollars worth of work into his jeep wrangler because he blew up the transfercase, driveshaft, & rear end downshifting into 2nd doing 40. anyway, once he fixed all of that .. his FRONT driveshaft started going bad, along with a bunch of u-joints. so, he got that fixed. then, a couple days after .. he decided to go offroading.
i was coming back from the world of wheel with my dad, & he calls me & says he's stuck in the grafton dirt bike trail. (anyone who isn't from around here, it's a VERY popular off road area.) he told me his friend in a silverado 2500 was coming to get him. once i get back from boston, he calls me again to tell me that now the chevy was stuck!
so i took my malibu, & a car load of kids i knew in a mercury. we tried for 2 hours to get them out. we said screw it, & called our prick of a friend to come winch us out because he works for a towing company.
now, we were stuck in all of this for 3 - 4 hours. the 2500 was the first one to get out, & the kid was so mad .. that when he went to go pull the jeep out, he didn't go gently .. he smashed the gas & ripped it out of the rut.
it's a funny situation i believe. i still give my friend crap about it.
& i made money out of it because i clean cars on the side, so there was 70 bucks on my pocket.(:

The wheels are a 15x8 and i THINK 235/75 is the biggest I can fit on a stock ranger without a lift. what tires do you guys suggest and where would you get them ? Im looking for something with some good solid tread on them that will handle some snow and ice and mud (but also occasionaly handle a highway) Im new with trucks so any help is appreciared!

So I built new steering parts for the Scout, went from this shitty setup:

To this:

I finally got to play around with it, only snapped a couple pictures before the batteries died.

Truck goes real well, I still have some small improvements to make here and there but I'm real happy with how well it did on its first outing. Unfortunately I twisted the rear driveshaft apart but oh well, its easy enough to build them.

I saw your truck in the ride of the month posting and didn't want to jack that thread. You have the same truck as me and I saw you had a three inch body lift, how bad was that to do. Did you have to modify the shifter linkage? I was going to do a two inch body lift but would rather have the extra inch if it isn't a huge pain in the ass. Thanks.

Where do you guys go wheelin? There are some spots in my town and around the general area. Nothing big but an hour or two maybe. I'm dying to go out to western Mass and hit up the good stuff over there. Found a good spot right here though. It's quite muddy!
