The Focus ignition cylinder is prone to failure. If it hasn't broken yet, it will. So, that's where I'm at now. Key got stuck in the ignition about 10 days ago. I know the trick to get the cylinder out, so that's done. I have a new cylinder coming tomorow. Just wondering if I can still use the new one without the tumblers ? I don't care if any key will fit, because the PATS chip in the key is still needed to start the car. The tumblers and springs seem too tiny for me to fumble around with. I think Ford wants too much to set up tumblers and I don't feel like paying a locksmith. I rigged the present one to work by removing the lock bar. But I really don't want to do that to a new cylinder. Just trying to cheap out as much as I can.

If it wasn't for the security chip in the key I could do the same. I used a 1/2" ratchet the other day. Just hold the key near the ignition and turn the ratchet.

Did the new cylinder today. Took about 15 min. I left the tumblers out. Key comes out in any position. I don't give a shit. It works.
