Full Version: Honda Takes Aim At The Busa And Zx14

Well Honda hasn't really had a bike that can hang with the Hayabusa and ZX14. Some may argue that the BlackBird 1100xx was the competition but the numbers have never been there to actually call this competition. They have finally let the cat out of the bag on the new V4 powered Interceptor 1200and she looks like she may thrown down with the big dogs.

We’ve got an update on Honda’s hotly-anticipated new V4-powered bike. It has been confirmed by Honda’s Senior Managing Director, Shigeru Takagi, that the new VFR will be seen in its finished form sometime this Fall, and will be in dealer showrooms next Spring.

The VFR1200, as you might have guessed from its name, will be a 1200cc version of the VFR model line. With the added displacement, the new V4 will take on the likes of the Hayabusa and ZX-14R, while Honda phases out the 800cc VFR and CBR1100xx.

In a rare interview last week with MCN, Takagi said the bike will be a “new breed of Honda”, which is a phrase we’ve heard Honda saying a lot of recently. There certainly seems to be a cultural shift occurring in the Honda ranks.

“We really believe we can develop a new era starting with this V4-powered machine. It is just the beginning and represents a new breed of Honda which will define Honda’s own taste and styling. This bike will be the perfect road machine that Honda customers have called for. It will be an epoch-making machine and more bikes from the V4 platform are possible. We know people think this bike is going to be a replacement for the VFR800 and the Blackbird but we do not see this bike as a replacement for anything. We see it as an all-new breed of machine, something very special.”

With the final form of the VFR still a hot topic, Togei did say that, ”the bike is different to the concept shown for the first time at Milan in 2009 but the link between them is very clear to see.” We look forward to seeing the spyshots as they come available.

Why would I care if GM made a bike? If they did it would be some kinda chopper or some crap anyways, not a pocket rocket.

This from the guy who's car will never be finished............ haaaa wanna race my Honda???

And back on topic the 2008-09 CBR 1000 has as much HP as those bikes but weighs 100lbs less
hsssss
Honda needs atleast 1500 "INLINE" 4... with a race stlye frame just to get back into the ring again, im not feeling the V engine as a Busa killer.

Sorry dude but dont be knockin hondas when u cant back it up with something thats not "inferior". They all sucked in the own ways. No matter who make its or designs it, it can be broken and blown up. espically with me on it............

It was more a dig at their cars not really their bikes. Anything on 2 wheels can be fast, hell I've seen mopeds walk cars in races before.

Sorry I must have been confused since we are in the bike forum.............jk

Yeah but those aren't the same category bikes.....the Busa and the 14 are categorized as sport cruisers which is the same class the new VFR is being put into.

The 1000RR is in the same class as the ZX10 and the GSXR1000, obviously you already know that, just trying to clarify for those that wouldn't know that smile.gif

I like how this looks a lot more than the Busas or ZX's, there's much less going on and it doesn't look fat and heavy. Going by things like the single sided swingarm I would assume the bike is considerably lighter (I think it was mentioned above) so handling might be much better.

I'd like to see the final production unit (I'd be astounded if they sold it with a shorty pipe like that among other things) in person and make the call on appearance, and I'm sure the HP/TQ curves ought to be interesting.

Supposedly that's very close to what the production bike will look like Jom. They had released a prorotype last year which had a lot more craziness going on and this year they put this one into the hands of a few testers so I think we are seeing what she will truely look like.

As for the shorty pipe I believe they can and will roll with it. If you look at a lot of new bikes especially the Kawi's theire exhausts are almost identical to this one.
