Hey guys i was gonna keep this a secret but i have several questions before i proceed i am about to buy a 2nd gen Eclipse gs i have not seen it yet it is at my friends garage and i t ake his word on the body saying it is in great condition well it has no motor or tranny and it was an automatic. Well tonight i went to go look at another eclipse that was in an acciden. It has 2 motors one in the car and another in his basement and the tranny.

Here is my delima tho does anybody know how compatible the computers are from a 2nd gen gs to 1st gen gst i know i will have to run new wires and everything is possible but i just was woundering if i should say fuck it and just hunt down a 2nd gen gst motor and computer so i can keep all thefactory guages in the 2nd gen.

I am just trying to see what will be involved in this endevor if i decide to buy the 1st gen turbo for the motor and parts.

reguardless i will be getting the 2nd gen gs body as it is only $300 and i may still buy the 1st gen and part it out for cash for a newer motor reguardless but a little input and advise would be nice been a lil while since i dabbled into dsm's and i miss them and i gaveup to early on my tsi like 6 years agoand kick myself in the ass for it but i was mostly a 1st gen guy. my 2nd gen was a blast to drive but was damn near stock engine wise and didnt get into much of the motor in my 2nd gen.

The ECU's are completely different. The GS has a 420A engine and the GST has a 4G63. Sensors are different too.

i am fully aware of this fact i was more concerned with the stock guages if i was going to have to run aftermarket or if i could make the factory ones work

you can always make the factory guages work... the stockers in my s10 work.

i am just debating building a 420a motor and boosting that or when i buy the other eclipse with the 4g63 with the tranny and extra motor swapping that into there and beefing it up a lil bit

Find a 6 bolt from a 1st gen. And then you wont hafta worry about crankwalk. Dani had a 6bolt in her Talon so im sure she can inform you about everything. Plus with the 6bolt all the first gen ECU's are EPROM's IIRC which means you can use DSM Link

I see how old this post is but I'd figured I'd answer the question anyways being the DSM expert I am and incase anyone wants to attempt it in the future and stuble upon this...

1. The 420A motor is revesed from the the 4G63 so you would not be able to swap the motor. The 420A mounted on the passanger side and sits a good foot back further than the 4G63.

2. If you have 2G shell that had a 4G63 in it you can drop a 1G 6bolt in, you just need to change out the factory engine harnest and ECU, its not hard either if your good at paying attention to details. Most of your dash is compatable too, they didn't change much, you might have to rewire your fuel pump and a few ther things under the hood, like cut and splice in bulb sockets, wiper motor, horn ect... your best bet is to use a donor car with an engine in it so you have "EVERYTHING" you need...

You can also do this swap with a 2G Spyder with a 4G64 2.4L NA

You can see my build here Martini's 99 Spyder build

You don't need to replace your harness to put a 6 bolt in a 2G car, all that is required is the CAS adapter. You had to change your harness, well not had to but it was easier to, because you had a 4G64 setup prior to your swap. Same goes for the ECU.

For anyone interested, this is a guide to the 1G in a 2G swap written by Marco from Magnus Motorsports: http://magnusmotorsports.com/wp-content/up.../02/1gina2g.pdf

You can purchase the 1G to 2G CAS adapter here: http://www.maperformance.com/magnus-motors...-1g2g-9799.html

Well :-P to you sir... Did not know such an adapter existed... But great info considering I'll probably do this sway a few more times in my life...

I wouldn't even waste my time with a 420a. 4g63 DSMs are a dime a dozen now and can be had so cheap. The amount of money it would take to make a 420a car remotely quick would probably pay for a 2ga awd talon or GSX twice over. I see 95/96 TSI AWDs going for $1500-$2000 on craigslist all the time.

Thats really the correct answer...

In my case I already had the car, and got a donor cheap...

Figured i'd chime in on this post. since i do own a 4g63t eclipse and a 420a eclipse aswell.

Martini: is correct u can't put a 4g63t in side of a rs or gs of a 2nd gen, Without welding the motor mounts in(honestly too much work and honestly not worth it at all).

Spawned: never knew that part existed either.

Also TAP u can boost a 420a engine Hahn Racecraft makes a Full turbo setup for it for like $3000
Hahn Racecraft Stage II turbo setup
It includes everything needed to do it!

I find this kit to be very interesting due to 3 major reasons:

1) It uses a 16g turbo to make boost.
2) Makes the 420a platform 2.3 seconds faster than a stock GST.
3) You can use the stock motor right out of the box(only needing to upgrade ur exhaust).

I'm actually considering doing this to my rs next tax season!

Also Tap there is one swap that can be done to a 420a powered rs or gs, i've only seen pictures and never seen it run. You can swap a EVO 7 or 8 engine(the ones without MIVEC) in without welding. I dunno about the tranny, I do know that u need a 2nd gen GST Engine Harness to run the motor along with an ecu. Most of the things i've seen on this r just pics of the engine in the car not running, so i'm not to sure on all the specs on it. The concept seems plausible and interesting.

Hopefully I put some insight on this whole debate.

When i posted this i had a 1G GSX that was totaled to Donate the motor/ Tranny basically everything i needed and i had a 2G RS/GS Shell both waiting for me to pull the trigger i just couldn't do it
DjMikeMartini
Yeah but at this rate.... we're going to make you get another DSM...

I feel like a drug dealer hanging out at the playground... HAHAHAHAH TRY SOME CRACK... I MEAN DSM

You can certainly boost a 420A for less than 3,000.00 with a little ingenuity. We bought Jack's old 2G Talon RS Automatic, mostly just for the turbo kit he had already installed on it. We got the whole care for $1100.00. We moved it over to my friend Adam's GS, this kit alone at 6 PSI put Jack into the 13's with an automatic, I would imagine low 14's on a manual with no mods, and I am confident on mid 13's on this particular GS we moved it to.

We are running an Devil's Own alcohol injection so we can push 15 pounds at the track, we may go crazy and even try 17-18 pounds depending on the tune, the block is newly rebuilt, but only with OEM internals.

Here is the manifold I would recommend, it's cast and it's T3/T4 and 35 or 38 mm wastegate. Personally I think you should look for an internally gated turbo if you plan on running 10 pounds or less, simply because low boost applications tend to do better with bigger wastegates and the 35/38 is the smallest you can get, you may still experience boost creep. 15 or more pounds though and externally gate that turbo, hands down, no doubt.

So now comes the turbo. Here is my recommendation...you can find these used for $400.00 on eBay with enough time and patience.

If you have a little extra cash, this really is the ideal turbo for the car. ($600ish used on eBay)

http://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.ph...1119&page=1

Get yourself an eBay intercooler such as:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MITSUBISHI-...#ht_4320wt_1165

Get yourself a 1G BOV used for like $30.00. This will recquire some work on your behalf to run, you may need to buy extra piping and couplers and cut some of the piping you have to run a custom route.

SAFC and a wideband and call it day.

Estimated cost: $1100.00
