The passenger side ( even numbered cylinders) of my engine get so hot that its now melting my starter wires and all the looms that are around the wires. I just had to replace my starter due to the extreme heat. The drivers side doesnt get as hot. Is it me or could something be going on here? I can touch my plug wires on the drivers side but I CANNOT touch the passenger side ones. I WILL burn my hands . Ask me how I know. yes thats right I burnt my hand by touching the plug wires. Now I know the wires cant take much more of that before they just crumble. The engine temp never gets over 190 degress.
Id go out and pull the plugs to look at them but the engine wont be cold for another to work on for another 5 hours. Its something Id have to do first thing saturday morning.
Its getting to the point where its gonna start a fire. I have to keep an extingusher in my car now. Actually, I might just let it burn if it starts.
oh and I just had a thought. I have 2 fans on my car and the drivers side one is the only one that turns on. I wonder if its helping to keep that side of my engine compartment a bit cooler by moving the air around. The passenger side fan is not wired up. Maybe I should into wiring it up to the ECM. hmmmmmm

if you have cats i would look at that first if not i would say that side/bank is running too rich and getting hot probably the o2 on that side going out that would be my starting guesses

I have no cats and I only have 1 O2 sensor and its on the drviers side. I hooked my laptop up but its not gonna show me anything if the A/F ratio isoff since the sensor is on the drivers header collector.
ANd no I dont have the TPI setup in there. its 383 EFI setup running through a FAST ECM. Its far from stock

Sounds like too much fuel to that bank to me but why only 1 o2?

Thats the way the FAST ECM is run. Its a heated wide band O2. A replacement will cost me just over $300

i don''t think that wideband is bad if your one o2 is on the opposite side. check the plugs and injector harness make sure somethings not loose or fould and if u can check you af on the laptop maybe the o2 is reading lean and dumping fuel on that side.

I checked AF and its at a pretty steady 14.2 at idle. It doesnt steer to far off that as I bring the RPMs up. Nothing looks out of wackon the laptop. Im gonna fire it up on saturday morning and check header temps on both side as she wamrs up and see if they rise at the same rate. Granted I can only fo to 1000 degrees but if something is wrong then Im sure I will see it.

it could be the fan moving air around, if the motor was running different on each side you would DEF. notice it.
does the 1 fan stay on all the time?

Standalone systems won't correct fuel or timing on just one set of cylinders unless they are told to; check your individual cylinder corrections to make sure they are zero'd. But like Spencer said, if the motor was running totally different on two banks you would know it. Check your plugs too...if one side's cyl temp is higher it will show on the plugs.

The drivers side fan turns on around 170. The passenger one was wired into the A/C shit and now is rendered useless. I gotta get thing working again. I will find out more on saturdaymorning when I watchit warm up from a cold start.

if they are they stock fans one pushes air in and one pulls if I remember correctly on a thirdgen.

I would check the plugs and see what they look like. Do you have a vacuum gauge at all? I would hook one up and see if you have a leak, they can cause motors to run really funny.. I would also check timing to see if everything is ok in the dept.

Both fans are designed to pull air in. I have a single fan setup for this car and until I find proof that 1 large fan can move more air then two small fans, it will continue to collect dust in my garage. I had bought the setup to replace the dual fans since one of the fans is useless at the moment but never got around to doing ther swap. Then I was going to run a seperate circuit for the pasenger side fan and splice the ground wire from the first fan to the second fan relay so that both would be triggered by the FAST ECU but never got around to that. Maybe I should look into it. On second thought, forget it. I hate my car already and I am in a bad mood because of it.
