I've been looking at dmax's a lot. But I'm wondering what the maintnence on them is. Do you change the oil every 3000? What about water filters? What about really cold winters? Any help is appreciated

just in my experience from diesels i'll tell you this:
1. Oil changes are similar to a gas motor in that dino oil needs to be done every 3k and synthetic every 5k-7500. The length depends on how much oil it holds. My lexus, for instance, only held 5 quarts of synthetic, so i changed it every 5k. My old ML430 on the other hand held 8.5 quarts, so i went until 7500 with it.
2. Water filters need to be done i'd say right around the time a fuel filter is done. As you know, water does not compress, so water in your engine will cause all sorts of havoc.
3. As far as really cold winters, just make sure you buy a few bottles of diesel-treat anti gelling fuel treatment. This is what my family uses on our mitsu box trucks because they sit outside all night and sometimes for a couple days before they're started up and ran. It works pretty well for us. You can also use a bottle of drygas here and there to help keep water out of your fuel lines to keep them from freezing.

VIN sheet for the 2003 GMCHope this helps. Looks like it was in a little fender bender early in life.
