Full Version: Stalling Still...

Alright so I've got the bov recirculating. I've checked the Clamps on everything. The Safc is uninstalled. I'm getting no check engine light. Car starts right up (jumped) gets to about 1500 rpm. If i don't give it gas it cuts out immediately. If I let off the throttle, as soon as it comes down to 2k it's drops out.

Just looking for more ideas as I chase the rabbit.

Random Questions:

Would a 100% dead battery cause stalling even if I'm still on the jumpers?

DSM'er question:

I've get a hose poking up from under the battery tray. I don't know where it's supposed to go or even where it came from I don't ever remember disconnecting that hose. Anyone know what it is?

first of all, that hose is probably a vacuum hose that needs to connect somewhere. That could be part of your stalling issue, as the engine under no load would be in vacuum, having that line disconnected would be a vacuum leak, causing a lean spot and thus causing the engine to say "F U".

Another thing i'm thinking is possibly the battery might not have enough juice to sustain the fuel pump. Is the fuel pump good? How about fuel filter? Injectors all ok?

Usually a stalling issue like this is caused by either vacuum or fuel delivery issues. The BOV recirculating doesn't have much to do with this specifically because again, you're in vacuum and the BOV "SHOULD" be staying closed. I know the supra and turbo lexus guys I know used to have stalling issues when the BOV would vent to atmosphere under boost, and recirculating would keep the MAF happy (the toyota ECUs haaaaaaaaate blow-through setups).

Check the injectors with a multimeter, make sure the fuel pump relay is ok, fuel filter is clear, and the fuel pump is operating correctly. Then, track down the source of that vacuum line, and if you really can't find anything, cap it and see if it helps at all.

What year is the car?
540s10
the car needs over 12 volts to run, if the battery is dead and sucking up the power (dead cell) from the jump it will not idle while jumped.

This may be too late to help you, but I will answer it anyway.

1. That hose is to your EVAP system, it is suppose to be plugged to the bung on the side of your intake. Not having it plugged in could cause a rough idle, but it will not cause your car to stall out. It's after the MAS so it is unmetered air getting into the system.

2. If the battery is completely dead or has a bad cell, than yes it will cause the car to cut out. When you are on the gas your are forcing the alternator to produce more power. Our alternators suck, alone they barely put out enough to idle the car with the accessories on, in good working order. When you let off the gas, the alternator is having problems powering the basic systems in your car because the power draw from trying to charge the battery is not allowing enough juice to continue with your basic ignition needs.

At this point you need a new battery. Doubly so if your battery says Interstate on the side.

I see you live in RI, I am unemployed and have plenty of time to lend a hand.

Also, do you have a voltage gauge installed?

Also the year is 2010. My bad. LOL

Anyway, the information is good to have for people who may search later.
