Yeah so as many of you know I traded the firebird for an 03 Chevy Avalanche. Right now it needs two doors and a rocker panel on the drivers side. It also needs to go faster. The 5.3 has some go but not enough for me. I already used the hypertech tuner on it, helped it a little. It is a 2 wheel drive truck so if I keep it long enough I would like to lower it a little and see how fast I can make it. Plans as of right now are the usual mods intake, headers, exhaust and a few things for looks. What I need is somebody who is familiar with full size trucks, what mods do you suggest? I've always thought 2 wheel drive trucks should be lowered a little and made to go fast. 4 wheel drive should be lifted and well made to go fast!!

Definitely a possibility after tax season. I want to see how it handles after lowering it and upgrading the suspension though. Going fast in it now is like driving a runaway freight train. I went from a sports car to a 7000 pound truck.

save your money on the intake and exhaust and spend it on a turbo and a 4l80e swap.

Didn't even think turbo, as far as tranny swap I was looking into t-56. I miss the 6 speed. Anybody make a turbo setup that you recommend or should I contact a shop to do a custom setup? This also all depends on how well the truck handles after lowering it. I know it will never handle like my firebird but a buddy of mine has a lowered sierra with all hotchkis suspension and I like the way that handles but his truck is also lighter than my truck.

do the turbo setup yourself, on those trucks its cake.. as far as putting a man pedal in it, a t-56 will not hold up, the truck is too heavy. but you could use a factory nv4500 from a pickup.

i think i might do my turbo 5.3 project this winter, so I can get you a nice parts list if you want.

A parts list would be great. Thanks for the help!

turbo!! only way to go on that. flip the manifolds and make your own pipes. its pretty simple on that. plus i posted something about a stock 5.3 with a turbo in a ford that went 9's. but until you go that route, pm badmax on here and talk to him about a tune. he does EFI live on all the duramax's around this area and he has done quite a few gas tunes also.

Slowhawk had a turbo kit and 4l80 swap on his avalanche but i don't think he has the turbo on there anymore although it was for sale.
