Im looking for the difference between the 2.2L and 2.0 SC cobalt alternator pulley diameters. I cant find it anywhere. If anyone can look this up on some kind of special data program I'd greatly appreciate it.
Sully
actually, they are both Ecotec engines.... so that may help people out. I am getting a big fat goose egg

only stuff i could come up with was that the 2.2 and 2.4 are the same, and the 2.0 S/C is a different size. Smaller i'd imagine to keep some drag off it.
Sully
im thinking its actually bigger.... I know they are 6 rib instead of the 2.2 and 2.4 5 rib

i need the diameters though I am two days into the hunt and have litterally have found squat!
bonnEVIL
wishi could help, maybe dani or andrew can help as one has an ion and one has a cobalt though.

ok never mind.... I just called a pulley manufacturer and according to them they are the same diamter. Begs the question why the hell is the belt longer on the 2.2 than the 2.0. The pulleys are the same, they all mount the same. Its just a wierd thing

larger crank pulley for the larger motor?
Sully
same size crank pulley, same size alt pulley, same ac, same idler, same tensioner, same sc..... they are all the same!!!!!! WTF?
Ms. MonteSSgurl
They do that just to drive you wacko Sully. They are out there going hmmmm let's see what bizarre thing can we do to drive that boy nutz today. Jk I dunno somethings are just unexplainable.

is the tensioner location different for the 2.2?

that's about all I can think of that would require a longer belt....unless maybe the waterpump is electric on one and not the other? Or the oil pump?

I would suggest fan but i'm pretty sure my rover's the only car left past the year 2000 that still uses a belt driven fan biggrin.gif

Lincoln LS 2000-2002 had a belt driven fan. Mine has been swapped over, but still

Belt tensioner is the same too. Litterally everything is in the came spot and same diameter. The only thing I can think of is the size of the block itself. But from what I am told, they are the same too.

I've moved the alternator a bit via washers and such in an attempt to get more belt contact area on the SC pulley. When I order my new crank and alt pulley, they will both be lighter weight, 6 rib, and I think Im going to add 5mm to the diameter of the alt pulley. That will let me run the full 6rib belt instead of the 5rib version (had to cut the last rib off because of the difference in pullies between NA and SC models), the extra 5mm will take up some extra slack keeping the tensioner from maxing out, and they are light weight so there will be less rotational mass.
