I'm lost on this one. I always thought a "lounge" was an area for off topic material. What is an "on topic lounge" on topic about? Someone please clarify for me.

we have grown tired of folks complaining about attention thread/FB threads and MYSPACE threads so we gave the people the off topic lounge to play as they please and an on topic lounge to post about more serious topics and matters....hence before folks click they should take a look to see what area of the forum they are clicking on

The on topic is literally on topic, no spam posts allowed as well.

It is an off-topic tread or soon to be off-topic thread if it is posted on Rekless, and I think if it is an on-topic thread it is posted somewhere else?
Orinackra
Sep 21 2009, 05:35 PM
well, we mean general topics. Like for instance I'm not gonna post a thread about beer in the GM tech section, but I want it to stay on topic.

I think we should just get rid of all off topic crap threads....problem solved

Recruit more mods? Or just make a section called the trash bin and say its for Attn: threads and maybe people will take the hint

from what im getting.
the off topic is just for stupid posts that dont really warrant a direct concise answer.
for instance a thread titled, "I hate hondas. check this thing out" This thread could easily get off track with worthless banter.
the on topic section is for threads that desire a real, concise and serious answer.
for example "does anyone know someone that repairs roofs?" or something of the sort.
i dont think its too complicated.
Hyland33
Sep 21 2009, 08:44 PM
So basically the off-topic section is totally un-needed...just threads that piss people off
bonnEVIL
Sep 21 2009, 09:30 PM
no, not at all.
its so that people dont clutter threads that serve a purpose, or are serious with off topic banter.
you should know, if youre going in the ontopic lounge, that there are threads that people are looking for answers, or opinions or what have you. if someone is questioning somethign to do with insurance, or they are having issues with a neighbor and are looking for advice they would post in the on topic lounge to keep it on topic and serious.
Josh's pineapple soda thread is a perfect example. thread is just asking to get steered off topic. we got into a discussion about mountain dew and my sperm within the first 10 posts. and other peopel chimed in with oh i like grape, oh i like raspberry, etc. this is perfect off topic thread for the lounge.
(not picking on you josh just a perfect example)
at least thats how im taking this whole split. i could be completely wrong.

^^This seems to be the type of stuff that should find it's way into a thread..

didn't work bud. There's two "attn:" type threads in the "on topic" now and another had to be moved

Both threads are looking for ON-topic advice or info, one of them is subject but the other is legitimate. I dont have power to move them regardless

I'll tell you why. I started this thread because I didn't get the on/off topic lounge forums. Nelson's response was because they have grown tired of people complaining about ATTN: threads. I will honestly say, I was definitely one of those people. I think ATTN: threads are retarded. With that said, the action continues and I felt like pointing it out again as I still find it annoying. This is why I quoted him and said it didn't work.
NOW, if you were wondering that it was for a different reason please speak up. Obviously, you must have seen my post. If you believe there is more to it, speak up. I'm curious to hear what your view on this is.

Seems like threads like this get bumped to just get people argueing...Site has been quiet and things seems to be running pretty smooth.
I do agree though that having both sections is pointless, but no point in complaining about it....

So if they just remove the word "Attn" would it still be annoying?
Just wondering.
Does it have anything to do with the content in the thread?,or just the word "Attn"?

for example if you wanted to know something about old cougars, you could post a thread "Does anyone know ____ about cougars" or "having a problem with my cougar, help". No, what we see is a "ATTN: Psquare75". Why? No frickin sense. I'm trying to stir up shit, I'm just making the statement that I've always made. It's pointless.

it is stupid. i agree. if i had knowledge about old cougars, i wouldnt look in that thread. but if i saw a thread that said "looking into a 79 cougar, any help?" i would say, fuck yeah i can help someone out here.
its an ineffective posting method, but if their looking for specifics, and dont find it, whatever. its annoying to see. but its their own fault/decision.

Just making sure you don't have a phobia or something

I understand,it just doesn't bother me that much.
Proper use of Attn is to make an announcement or bring something to someones attention. It is confusing when used to ask a question.
Maybe some people don't understand they are limiting answers by not acknowledging the rest of the forum.
I for one usually just skip over them.
