I know the windshield is only suppose to have about 6" of tint or so on the top. I have a solid 12" vinyl banner with another 3" of dark tint. I got the sticker, but they also said my back side windows and rear window were illegal also. My family and I have been going to the same station for years, so he let me slide. It's the old " It wasn't tinted when I inspected it. " Which is fine by me. Better than removing it. Anyway, here is the RI law on window tint .

It's as if you really can't tint at all without being illegal. Christ, I see cars every day that you can't see inside at all. That includes the windshield.

yeah. it comes down to what cop is enough of an asshole to really pull you over for it. I had 20% on my lexus, and from 40ft behind the car on a cloudy day you could see the rearview mirror through the window. Got rolled in warwick at the beginning of winter and had to remove it

ri is you cannot have any form of film tint on your windows for a passenger car.

No I'm not. There is no exact percentage stated either. I've had the same tint for over four years and the same station did the inspection back in 2007 with no mention of the tint. I was more concerned with my rear tires and exhaust.

RI tint laws suck.....at least in Mass 35% is legal

I live in pawtucket, roll through central falls and providence regularly. I see bitches driving like ass hats in there new Lexus or 300m with completely blacked out windows and front windshield. It's ridiculous to think that I saw an old man on minerals spring, I'm talking 60+ with the cop and the tint (light) meter on his drivers side window. I don't really get bothered for reasons but it amazes me, I'm down in Florida so every window is Dark as fuck or limo. I don't get what makes it such a problem up north compared to down hear. People should know to turn on the inside light and roll down the windows. If its the police that are the ones who are concerned, they should just draw when they walk to the car. I expect a certain level of privacy when I'm in my car. I find driving the Srt i get alot of people trying to look at me and in my car. That's why I want it.

Pawtucket is one of the cities I don't like driving through. I got nabbed years ago for a smoked licsence plate cover. $75.00 ticket that go thrown out. I still had to pay $25 court cost. I think the cops in E.P. have seen my car enough and don't bother me because of my age. (48) I'm sure if my 17 yr old was driving, they'd run a check on him.

my buddy got pulled for tint and the cop literally followed him to the tint shop to get it removed...nothing better to do apperently

i had 20% all the way around this summer...i got pulled for speeding, tint, and exhaust...he fined me for the exhaust only (which i thought was pretty nice considering my circumstance) but told me if he saw me with the same tint he would ticket me and have to go to court...

needless to say i didnt wanna deal with that, im on the radar enough in my town, so i got it tinted to the legal limit the following week, still looks good....kept the 20% on the rear window tho

I have 20% in the back 3 windows and 35% in the front 2, I wanna put a small banner at the top of my windshield but since im getting my inspection this month im gonna wait. I go to this garage in pawtucket where my ex's father knows the owners he went to school with them and since they already know me they give me the same shit "You got this car inspected before you got it tinted" ya ya ya, I know what to do. I have gotten pulled over a couple of times, in Cumberland and in Lincoln....well in Cumberland I was having a bad night I was upset and went driving around to get my mind off of some shit and then BAM I get pulled over. They noticed my tint and my license plate covers and just give me a warning and tell me to take care of it. Ok well then in Lincoln there was my ex driving my car, Josh Sousa in the front, his fiance and I in the back when she was 8 months pregnant, we were on out way to Luxory box on a wednesday night back in April, we got pulled over bc I had my light on in the back checking to see how much money I had for the night....Im thinking the cop thought I was dealing or doing something else, soo he pulls us over, checks out my car and what not and then comes back and says "You know you have illegal tint on this car, I dont like tint.....around here they call me the TINT MAN"!!!!! I wanted to laugh sooo hard, but we all held it in and then he says "Ok your all set, have a good night.....sooo I try to roll down my windows alot and just be careful.

Illegal tint is not worth it. You are bound to get pulled over eventually or get rejected a sticker. 35 is fine, Sucks for you guys down in RI.
