there's no "general" discussion area so I just threw it in here.
Any body have any experience with either the Hawk HPS pads or the PBR/Axxis Ultimate pads?
I'm in need of new brake pads so any opinions either way will help. I want something that performs good, so stock style pads, ie raybestos, are out of the question.

No input on those. I know Hawks wear fast. I use Carbon Metallics in my Cavalier, which are iffy for the first few stops until they warm up... and Raybestos Brutestops for my Cougar, which are fleet/police pads. Those launch me out of the seat.

Yea I thought about going to a ceramic pad but they tend to need some heat in them and figured I'd pass since I do drive my car all year round.
Everything I read about the raybestos line on maxima.org said they tend to fade quickly. I get into some spirited driving and the last thing I want is crazy brake fade.

whatever you buy...
CERAMIC, CERAMIC, CERAMIC if you don't want to be cleaning your wheels every other day.
The previous owner did the rover's brakes with non-ceramic pads and they're still biting in and throwing more dust than i ever care to see.

cleaning isn't a big deal to me. I clean my whole car enough in the summer, weather dependent, that I won't care.

I have carbon metallics on my car, and they're great. They have well over 60k miles on them and are still going strong. They were affordable ($60 for the pair) and perform well. I never experienced the heat issue, and I run my car all year long as well.

I'm scif5 on maxima.org as well and I've run Hawk HPS on my I35 twice. The first time around they were good in terms of performance for pretty much anything you wanted to do on the street. I've never faded them. COming down from the cars top speed it just warmed up the pads and made them grab harder, although initial bite when cold is the same as stock pads, if not a little bit better. They lasted about 50k miles so plenty for an aftermarket pad. So performance was great, my gripes with them were that my last set were noisy as hell.. for a relativly mild performance pad. I could NOT come to a stop without constant noise. Not that is was like a city bus or very loud terribly embarrasing noise like I've heard with some real race cars but it did squeel a little and it was consistent. Also my rims were notoriously black. People thought I had my rims powdercoated gun metal gray when I didnt clean them.
THat being said I went with them again recently and this time I put absurd amounts of anti squeel on the back of the pad and I havent heard a single peep out of them, they are as quiet as OEM. That will prob change as the anti squeel comes off, but I also havent had such wheel cleaning problems because I havent raced the car once since putting the new pads on or even really driven it hard. So overall second time around seems to be treating me as well as I could possibly ask for. To give you an idea, my mom is now borrowing my I35 and has been the entire summer and has no idea theres aftermarket pads on the car but just loved how the car stops.
