so i got the 81 to run. after troubleshooting for hours, it turns out the on / off / reserve switch on the gas tank is bad and fuel only gets through on reserve. but it does run. however i think my throttle cable has a sticky spot cuz it starts and idles nicely, but when i give it gas and then let of the rpms dont go down. and it bogs down under wot , or close to wot. but its nothing that i cant fix.
and the best part i just found out is that its actual mileage is 2085, yes thats right, for 27 years this bike has seen less than 100mi a year.

You should stop over then.

Sounds like there may be an intake leak dude, the more I rea dabout carb'd bikes the more I hear that idling problems especially hanging idle is due to an intake leak somewhere

i thought that at first but disregarded it temporarily cuz ive ran other carbed motors with out filters and yea it changes slightly but i mean this is drastic change.

Try a filter, and check the boot's between the carb's and stack's. They tend to dryrot and crack causing running problem's.

definatley put a filter on her before you mess anymore with the carbs ,you could have a flat spot in the cable causing it to hang up like that. what kind of feul you running in her?try sume cam 2 like 1 to 2 gallons with some 93 in there and let her run like that clean all the gunk outof the carbs that way

Check your carb linkage too, that could be sticking.
Have you cleaned the carbs out before you started tinkering? Even with only 2000 miles on it, any gas that's been in there for more than a year will gum things up pretty badly.
If you're having issues at WOT you're probably bringing in too much air, the filter may fix that.
Basically, don't tune until you have everything in good order. You can't tune properly when other things aren't working right.
Oh, you'll want to fix the reserve valve unless you have a trip odometer. Running out of gas on a back road on Sunday night is the pits! (it happens to everyone at some point!)
