That was a good read! 291 in Springfield used to end at Paige Boulavard. My dad and uncle told me about similar stories on 291 before the road was expanded.

oh there are still places but not places without EPIC risk taking. Like the article says I used to race daily back in the day and even got caught with a slap on the wrist. NOW they will impound the car, nail you with serious fines and take your license for a minimum 30 days. Waaaaay too much risk involved now.

The industrial park off of 140 in New Bedford used to be the place in the 70s, from what my dad said. Until people started rolling in with cars on trailers to race.. That's why there are seemingly random large barricades in the way now.

When i was a bit younger my friends and i used to frequent harris ave in providence, there is a back strech in Lincoln RI , Exit to Exit in cumberland on the high way (very dumb but we were kids and kids do stupid shit) and also going from blocking off the on ramp of 295 at the beginning in attleboro with a car and racing to the bridge which was a 1/4 mile right before the oher lane of traffic would merge onto the highway

very cool. . . there are still a bunch if places around which is fun, especially when you get enough people to actually block off an entire area. again cops ruin a lot of it, as does crashing... and hitting people (very sad). . .
and as far as listing off the places, may not be the smartest think.

Back in the early 90's i d race my bike at the shipyard off of Allens ave(Prov.R.I), on good days we d have 15 to 20 bikes...The police shut us down by posting a Cop car there, so we started running on Reservoir ave near "Twin Oaks" at night , bikes and cars started comming from all over the State and MA....Cranston Cops didn't catch on at first ...but when they did.... tickets... tickes... tickets..

Maybe one or two encounters, after the last one I quit the "organized" street racing. I do know that the avalanche is faster than a civic with a fart can but slower than mustang gt.

I still think they should have paid me for the valuable training they got.

i have the issue of Hot Rod that it was origonally reported in. i wanted to see if i can ge tth eaddy of the guys who set that one up and see if they can give me some direction. the list i imagine is:
Airport
Police
Porta-Tree
City of Taunton
and maybe even the neighbors within a half mile for sound reasons. ( all cars would have to be registered and Inspected in their state to compete)
and im sure there may be more.
if i was to go about doing this i would say that we need to tie this event to a charity say $20 entry fee. from there, we give $5 to the airport per entry. Portatree would probably need something or maybe theyll take a charitable write off. in the end we would have the best turn out if it was a NON Profit event.

that almost sounds like here in marlboro. there's a street as long as a quarter mile, & they use to race on it back in the day. everyone here calls it the A&M. people still race on it, but the cops have undercover race cars now. it's crazy.

i always thought that if the city (worcester) used there heads and let some company host a drag event once a week or w/e at the unused airport they could cut down on street racing , and make some cash back thats dumped into the place , but that would also clash with the well inforced "dont have any fun in worcester" law
