Chanel 10 news at noon says Bob Tasca the creator of the 427 cobra jet
Stangman_NB
wow RIP....Tasca family has been involved in th edrag racing sport and specialty cars for so many years
PSquare75
Doesn't Tasca the 3rd sell cars AND drag race?
Stangman_NB
yes they still are haevily into them....in fact they have had one of the new Cobra Jet's at DEZ and have been beating the snot out of it at the track. They take that shit seriously. If you walk into their showroom in RI, it's more like a frikkin shopping mall than a car dealership.

My dad's always bugging me to goto the Tasca show (even though he's a GM guy). Maybe I should go this year. I've never been.

They are pretty good....last time I went a few years ago there was an original Ford GT40 imported here from South Africa...OMG Drool.gif

John Force was there that day with his daughter and the Beach Boys performed as well. Lots of fun stuff!

RIP. The automotive world has lost a legend. My family is very close friends with the tascas and I used to work for them a couple years back. Even in his elderly state I've never met a sharper more intelligent businessman than Bob Sr.

He invented the 428 cobra jet, as well as the original GT500 KR. He was also a pioneer in their Pre-Trade leasing program, which has allowed people that previously couldn't afford the car they wanted to get into them at a cost they can deal with. Never have I ever met a man with a better eye for automobiles and more knowledge of how to fix them, and sell them. His motto was always "Race it on sunday, sell it on Monday". One of the best mechanics and drag racers of his time, and was still right up there advising John Force throughout most of his career, and working with Caroll Shelby to create some of the most influential muscle cars around.

This really sucks. He was a great guy no matter what people may have said about his business practices, which were sometimes considered 'ruthless'. Truly was the last GREAT dealership founder. His sons will do an excellent job of taking it to the next level, but nobody will ever match what that man was able to accomplish over the course of his career.

The tasca show is a great time. If we could get a good amount of people, I could probably pull some strings to get us our own section, or even just head over there to hang out.

Salud, Mr. T. Keep an eye on us and Bobby at his races.

I worked for the tasca's for a year and a half or so. Even in Sr.'s latest of days he would still mingle around the dealership chatting with customers and employee's. He was a very nice person.

Thoughts and prayers to the Tasca family...even if I still have a grudge with some of them.

The guy was a genius. I've seen one of these...... from a distance, they look like.. well. a mid 70's 'Benz

"Mercury-Benz" look-alike by Bob Tasca
After Ford introduced the Granada-Monarch line in the 1970s, Bob Tasca who owns a tiny Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Seekonk, Massachusetts saw an opportunity to modify a Monarch and market a Mercedes-Benz look-alike, at one third the price of the real thing. He added Mercedes-Benz like hub caps, a "250 LM" signature on the trunk lid and a Mercedes-Benz like hood ornament to a Monarch. He also mounted the radio antenna in a rear fender, changed the trunk lock over to a Lincoln cover, and pin-striped the bottom of the car. He sold 40 of these "Mercury-Benz" cars a month.

he was famous for this. He did it with grand marquis' and crown vic's, sables, mustangs, Montegos (M600), and more recently the MKZ and MKx, as well as fusion and milans.

Whenever you see a grand marquis with the 'park lane' edition badge, it was actually based off of tasca's design, which is now known as the "CTE" or custom tasca edition.

Did he do the "Bostonian" Cougars I see ALL over the place?

idk if he was solely responsible for them, but i'd be willing to bet he had a pretty strong hand in them.

Another note: When the fusion and edge first came out, that 3 bar grille was his design also.

He will be missed

I don't know if it's out of respect or sponsorship, but John Force has had Tasca on the front of his car for years. Drag fans will be familiar with this.
