i just got a letter in the mail today from chevy... saying:
this letter is intended to make you aware that some 2006 model year cobalt vehicles, equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder supercharged engine, may have a condition where the malfunction indicator lamp illuminater, and/or there is a lack of engine power. this may be caused by failure of the catalytic converter..

Yup the pre-cats in the QR25's fail. I want to say it happens to every one of them. The b15 guys will be able to give better info since I don't know the QR motors.

This is basically telling you what any LSJ owner already knows. The cats clog and you lose power. They extended the warranty on the factory cat/dp from 80k miles up to 120k miles.
Its nothing new as most LSJ owners that modify their cars have run into this problem already or have replaced header/dp combo anyways.

That is how I bought my Spec V! I got it cheap after the kid blew the engine "due to oil consumption"... The oil loss he was experiencing was due to the pre-cat that is located on the stock header. I guess it would break apart and shards would be sucked back into the engine and score up the cylinder walls.
And yes... it seems to happen to everyone eventually. Go to any B15 forum, and you'll see plenty of stickys warning about the pre-cat and the butterfly valves!

wait, so if you dont replace a part that has normal wear and tear, it performs poorly?
who'da thunk it?

It prematurely fails...thats what the recall is for. Cats arent supposed to die within 80k miles hence the govt. mandatory warranty(on all OEM cats from the factory)
But GM has noticed that it continues afterwards so they extended it. For any 2.0 supercharger owner that mods their car or it on a forum of some sort this is old news...seeing the cars have been doing it since the first RL rolled off the showroom floor in 2004

Look at the bright side in your case the car will just lose power, Imagine if like the throttle pedal stuck to the floor or something? That would suck

The thing is it only seems to be stock cats that have the problem. ZZp cats/magnaflow or any other d/p company that has a cat built in seems to not have problems.
I havent heard any problems with the LNF cats though...plus going catless on the LNF sounds better than catless on a LSJ

Yea it does sound alot better since I went cat-less. As surprising as it may seem, I didn't gain anything on the dyno though.

stock cats now-a-days flow rather well
