Hey guys,
ok time to do an oil change on the Escape. 3.0L V6. First time ive changed the oil and im going to swap it over to synth. Ive always used Mobile 1 in my previous imports but this doesnt spin anywhere near as high in the RPM. Id still like to use synthetic bc it doesnt breakdown as fast but i dont know if i need Mobile 1 $$$. What do you guys use and how much is it a quart ? Thanks guys (and girls)

what will be best depends on your habits of changing it, and how you use it.

If you are changing it via the light on the dash, or according to the owners manual, you'll be changing it long before a conventional oil will break down to the point of not lubricating like it should.

If you are going to run synthetic, make sure to extend your oil change intervals, otherwise your just throwing money away.

I run mobil 1 in the 8.1 to try to help MPG's and prevent scuffing with the long stroke.

The diesel gets good old 15w40 rotella

The 540 gets castrol HD 30.

I always run Mobil 1.

The last I had heard (and I very well may have heard wrong) that all other synthetics were actually blends, and that Mobile 1 was the only truly synthetic.

Not to mention that the prices aren't that much different (about $1 per quart more for M1)

Like was said earlier, with a synthetic you can extend your oil change interval to roughly 5k miles. Hell, I know there are some cars out there that are running M1 with a factory recommended oil change every 15K miles!

i use mobile 1 in the cobalt. ive gone 8K miles and the light on the dash still hasnt come on. and the oil still looks clean. and im with brad. its like 27$ at walmart for a 5 quart jug
hsssss
i run mobil 1 in the cobra, its never seen anything else from new, My 2.3 in the ranger gets whats ever on sale.
My point is i dont need to spend the big money on the ranger to protect a DD, On the otherhand my Cobra engine is a big deal and want only the best for my investment.
Walkingchaos
guess ill stick with mobile one smile.gif

This was true. Since castrol was kicking their @$$ with their synthetic made from Group III oils, mobil has stepped theirs down to Group III (not group IV anymore, which is pure synthetic) but still charges the same $$$.

It is still, IMO, the best stuff out there...

The G8 has 7600 miles on it with factory oil still in it and 13% life remaining. According to the on-star report it will almost make 10K. The change engine oil sensors in the new cars monitor the oil, Unlike the older cars that go by every 3000 miles. When I bought the car the GM tech told me to wait for the light to come on and don't be scared to drive it.

personally, i'd run a blend for 2 oil changes, just to condition the seals for it. I've always had good luck doing this before going full synth.

Then, definitely Mobil 1 5w20 in that escape. Only other oil I'd ever use is pennzoil.
