Has anyone had any experiences with a Lexus Sc400? I've always liked them because they have a V8 but are they really decent cars? good stuff/ bad stuff? performance?

SC's are great cars. the 400 has one of the best motors ever built in it.


They're pretty quick, the 1uz puts out about 240rwhp and 250rwtq. The transmission is an a650 or a650e if it's a later model with the e-shift.

They all have similar common problems. Some things you will run into are door lock actuators (cheap and easy), burnt out cluster lighting (company called lextech will completely redo them in any color you want for about $150), and bleeding climate control displays (i believe lextech does those as well).

As long as the timing belt has been done every 90k or so with the waterpump, and the suspension stuff (ball joints/tie rods and associated bushings), those cars are bulletproof. You'll see many of them lasting well over 200k miles (one of the guys I know has a boosted sc300 with 315k miles, all original body and motor.)

I've always loved the SC models but I would love to get a 400 cause I've always been into V8 cars.

yeah, the 1uz is a great motor and they are awesome cars. The only thing is they're ALL automatic with only a couple exceptions nationwide (hopefully i'll be another of those exceptions soon )


the sc300's from 92-97 came 5spd as well, with the w58 supra trans and the 2jz-GE non vvti motor. Another great motor, but they're DOGS without boost.

The aftermarket is crazy for them, there's tons of parts everywhere and clublexus.com is one of the biggest lexus communities. You can find anything on there, whether its parts, how-tos or whatever.

that red one is actually converted to 5spd, and the blue one is swapped to a 2jz-GTE (yeah, i know it sounds NASTY lol last i knew he was putting down about 600rwhp)
