Im in the market for a new car reciever. I have had Alpines most of my life so Id like to get another. Im looking at the CDA 9886. I want something that has 3 sets of preamps at 4V and ipod controls. So, Im just looking for your feedback if you have an Alpine. Im only asking this because Alpine has gone mainstream now and I know their quality has gone down a bit. Im still open to other brands (other then Sony). I dont want to spend over $250.

I had a 9833 which was the pinnacle of Alpine w/o a slidestrip. Their quality is questionable now, indeed. I sold it because that deck needed a $100 ipod controller and even then it was VERY slow accessing.

thats a nice deck Tap but the specs show it only having 2 sets of pre outs. I only use two now, front and sub. I would like the option to have a set of rear outs when I decide to swap my interest over to my blazer. Where did you see 3 set of pre outs?
Also, Id like to know how easy it is to navigate thgrough preset station with actual buttons for it.
Paul, the Alpines that had that slidestrip invention have got to be the worse decks Alpine came out with. I cant stand thoses. Alpine really got cheap on their stuff when they started selling to stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. I remember backin the day when an Alpine deck could only be bought at dedicated stereos stores and you knew you were getting a really good brand.

Im pretty sure the deck I have is the CDA 9886 and I got the seperate Ipod hookup for like 20 on ebay. I dont have any complaints about the Deck at all. The deck looks a little different but mine is probably older so it will have minor differences.
Edit: Mine is actually the 9881. It required the interface adapter but I have no complaints

Jon, that deck requires an ipod interface adapter which is another $70 and something else I have to mount in the dash. I want all that in the deck itself. Thanks though

After my last experience with Kenwood, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. My head unit died after 14 months of use, and basically told "tough shit" by Kenwood's customer service. There went $250 down the drain.

Tap, I was so close to buying that Kenwood on ebay but i went back and looked at the reviews and most people complained about how hard it was to navigate around in the settings with that right hand wheel. The radio I choose will be going in my Tahoe and some of you know that the old body style GM trucks have an old ball size radio and therefore I must put the aftermarket one in the middle of the dash. its a bitch messing with a radio when it half was across the dash in a fullsize truck. But you never know I may get it anyway and hope the remote does a lot of the functions the deck does

That is true but the remote has all the functions you will need in it and 95% of the kenwoods i have used are easier to navigate than any alpine just my opinion
And try and get an HD one cause i have a feeling in the next few years everything is going to get switched to HD radio as well and it is free
I could be wrong on the switching but i truly believe that
