As much as I want to have my rear end powder coated it just isnt in the budget right now and I need to get the car back on the ground. Whats the best way to go about degreasing the rearend and getting all the rust off? I just want to paint it for now and save the money.

Is it all apart, like no gaskets or anything on it? If so just go at it with aircraft stripper. If it's together and you have to watch for gaskets, seals and bearing you can still use aircraft stripper just make sure to not go anywhere near the parts that can be damaged by it.

i wire wheeled mine and then clean the housing in and out with brake clean. the rear was all apart. if its together and in the car id hit it with a wire wheel(drill) and then blast it black. honestly it doesnt need to be perfect its under a car thats 6 inches off the ground

Yeah its all apart, I stripped it down with intent to coat it but thats just not gonna happen. I dont have the $250 to have it done.

Where can I get aircraft stripper? I was thinking wire wheel but that could take a while and I get impatient lol

Wire wheel, prep all,

then that.

Mines held up for 8 years and the car has has outside for 4

AZ and Advanced both have aircraft stripper.....soak it on, let it sit, scrape quickly and then clean it off....looks like new and ready for paint or whatever
LSRengineering
I'll deff. look into that nelly. Probably do it that way and then spray with some self etching primer and then paint.

From my 9" project the AC/Stripper worked the best for me,(Any Autozone has it) after you get old paint off(Watch the seals), clean with dishwashing soap, sand lightly,Prime it and paint...I ve used POR 15 on mine ..Cost a bit but works great and lasts forever

Mines a bare housing at the moment so no need to worry about seals or gaskets.

Just be careful not to get the stripper on your hands or anything, the stuff will peel ANYTHING lol....I used rubber gloves when I stripped the powder coating off of a bike swingarm and just taped them at the wrist to make sure nothing got on me, OH and make sure to wear protective eyewear, that stuff would be REALLY bad in your eyes

I was just going to say gloves and eye protection. Get them or you might have to call the amberlamps.
