my parents own a '04 Chevy Malibu LT with an '05 3.5 SFI, & recently it's been having a hard time starting. when i go to turn it on, it'll just keep turning, & turning & turning. while i'm turning it .. i have to hit the gas pedal two times to start it, & the cd player won't work unless i turn off the car again to reset everything. the check engine light doesn't come on, & it still has power.

i'm thinking it might need a good tune up, or the injectors are junk.
i need opinions on what can cause this.

does it crank nice and fast or is it slow like its about to die?
ChevyGirl86
nice & fast & it'll keep cranking untill you hit the gas pedal & rev the motor up.

I just went through something similar and it was the fuel pump. I guess theyre notorious?

Try this: turn the key to on wait a couple seconds then turn the key to start. I found many bowties that are hard to start, work fine with this method.

Thats just priming the system, if the pump is junk like the one I had its useless. Test fuel PSI.
D. Snuts
yeah but it seems to work

i have tried the key method, it still did it .. but not as brutal.

the fuel pump did click into my head, because my mom always runs the thing on a quarter tank.
i'll defitnally check that one out now.
