I have a 10" Kicker L5. A few months ago, it stopped working. Amp was fine, still lit up and had power going to it so I figured it was the sub. After disconnecting everything, i.e power, ground, remote, and put everything back it worked again for a few days. 2 days ago same problem happened again. I did the same thing, but this time it wont work. I took the sub out of the box, checked all the connections on it and from the sub to the box. Everything was perfect. Out of frustration, I punched the box. Sub kicked on for about 30 seconds then shut off again. I really thought that maybe it was the amp, so I hooked up another sub I had and that one worked perfectly. Idk if one of the voicecoils is blown or maybe something internal on the sub is loose/broken. I know tap and a few others guys know more in depth about subs, I just know the basics and how to install them. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. And before anyone asks, yes I made sure the wiring on the sub was correct for the 4 ohm DVC down to a single 2 ohm load so that isnt the problem. Sorry for the long rant, just getting frustrated and trying to get my car ready for the opener.

my friend had this exact problem. something in the amp might be junk or blown. i got an extra lying around if you want it & give it a try.

def not the amp. i have another sub hooked up to it right now and just drove around for 2+ hours without a problem. im def thinking its something in the sub itself.

It's the sub it is a stupid square and thats the problem it tore itself apart from the inside like all squares do over time very efficent when working but a little distortion and it's blown
J Kellz
but itll work when it wants to mark? idk its weird. id have to show you
Terrence
its torn somewhere thats why is only works sometimes.......
Terrence
i know this isnt a square sub but its just gonna show u where it might have torn at....

good description

Kellz basically if your going to play it loud all the time think of a sub as a piston and if a square piston was better then cars would have square pistons not circles a circle has the same distance from and edge to center and can straiten itself out after distortion a lot easier where a square has different distances from the edge to the center and has alot of trouble correcting itself after distortion and thus causing the sub to tear from that happening too much and you will have basically a blown sub you may as well use it as a door stop

aight ill just use my other one then. if anyone needs a box let me know haha
