Full Version: Anyone Do Rear Drums Before On A Neon

My grandmothers 02 neon needs to have rear shoes or something. She called me and told me the right rear wheel is locked up. Im willing to bet something in the brake setup broke and is now jamming the drum. I have never done drum brakes before so I have no clue about them. Do I need special tools? Will this job on the neon take a while or is it pretty straight foward?
Zack
There is a special tool for taking the springs off and putting them back on but you don't need it. The thing that gets most people when doing drum brakes is that they take them all apart and then don't remember how to put them back together so you should take a picture with your phone or something when you take them apart, or take the other side drum off so you have something to refer to.

you can do the rear's on the DB BRUISER after the peon

you actually do gotta use that special tool when putting it back together. i did my camaro's drums, & i had to use it to put the springs back. just gotta becareful, because if you point the tool in the wrong way, the spring will go flying. & it hurts when it hits you.

it's pretty simple once you get use to it. just make sure you don't loose all the small peices that you take out.

Do one side at a time. I did the brakes on Nelson's Beretta. One side was an hour and a half(without tools) the other was 20 minutes (I made him get the harbor freight set).
Hippy
theres only tools that make it easyer , nothing that you "cant' do the job without .
