Just got done vacuuming the gtp out, and I got to thinking about how some people could care less about the inside of their car... my gf included. She cant be bothered. Now I know none of you save B25 Chris have been in my home, but I'm pretty meticulous. The house is always clean, no dishes out, no clothes on the floor, stuff like that. But what bugs me is that I know lots of people who keep their houses clean, but their cars are DISGUSTING! I dont get it. Think about how much time you spend in your car... in that filth! I try to keep my car as clean as my house. Its tough sometimes, since it rains half the year here, and snows the other half, but still. I dont get mad if theres water spots on the windows, but it gets vacuumed, the leather gets conditioned, and I make sure that the dash and all the panels get wiped down... at least with a damp, soapy rag if nothing else. I try not to use a lot of chemicals because I hate that greasiness that occurs from armor all and shit like that.
So how clean do you keep your car?

My car all depends on how hard i have been working and what time of year it is but mine is due for a real cleaning i basically live out the front seat of mine and use the back as storage for things like softball equipment camping chairs all the stuff from the cook out the other day a spare sweatshirt or two but when i do clean it it is spotless but i spend about 3 hours a day in my car and when i get home don't useualy have the motivation to clean it along with making dinner or doing other things so it all depends but right now it lookslike a bomb went off from last weekend

For the most part it stays clean. I don't put much stuff in there outside of school and work stuff. Dirt wise it doesn't get too bad as long as people knock their shoes before they get in. I dust down the plastics when ever they are dusty. Once a year I strip off the old protectant and put new stuff on.
I agree with you on the greasy feel of a lot the protectants on the market. I'm using meg's natural shine and it is dry to the touch and doesn't have that overly glossy look to it. Not much of a smell, just enough to get rid of the APC smell that I use lol

I might look into one of thier interior products, currently using their red wax and the bright and bold tire shine, once I kill the megs natural shine bottle. I'm pretty happy with the megs stuff I have as there's no need to apply every time you dust it off. That and I can drive down to vatozone and pick a up bottle lol

My interior stays clean for the most part. Except during the summer and winter. Park in a sand parking lot for work so it all gets tracked inside..and in the winter theres just sand everywhere. I usually wipe down the dash once it gets dusty. As far as crap in my car, theres usually just camera stuff which will get put in the trunk once my system is gone.

I know I need a new driver seat, but you get the idea.

Now my trunk on the other hand, isnt quite as clean, but still not horrible. Why I keep 2 wheels in there, I dont know.

I shake the floor matts out monthly. That's about it. I've always been a "armor-all is evil and ruins everything" person, so i just use a dry rag usually on the dash (or more often than not, the sleeve of my shirt). My interior is usually only work stuff and car parts, nothing like 3 week old dunkin bags or anything, I clean it as I go.
A messy trunk is a huge pet peeve of mine. Mine just has the spare, the basket of extra fluids if I need them on the road, and a sunshade thing I never use. My ex gf traveled around with her life in it. Of course I only remembered when we had her car and I needed the trunk for something

same here. I hate opening a trunk and seeing shit EVERYWHERE! Yuck! How can people justify putting groceries... food.... in there when its that gross. I have the same as you, plus a tool kit and my snowbrush. What I really need is to replace the spare tire cover. The previous owner demolished it.

May 28 2010, 05:43 PM
im not super anal about mine, i dust the dash every once in a while and vacuum the floors when need be, and i keep trash out of them... and after ive been mudding i usually hit the auto carwash with the undercarriage jets on the way home..... my girl on the other hand has a war zone in her blazer.. she eats breakfast on the way to work so there's always food on the floor, dunkin bags, etc.. i cleaned it the other day cuz i had to use it and there was fucking dried up oatmeal in the carpets and a banana peel under the seat! about the only time it ever gets cleaned out is every 3 months when i take it to work to do the oil change.. i scrubbed the oatmeal out with brake cleaner and a wire brush and told her if it's ever that nasty again she can take it somewhere and pay to have it detailed.. needless to say i almost never go anywhere in her car...

My house isnt the cleanest but it doesnt get disgusting either. When it comes to my car I do a thorough cleaning a couple times a year and usually get all the trash out a few times a month.

My house is a little cluttered (not gross, but some dirty dishes in the sink, some clothes sitting on the dresser, etc), but my car is always clean. My trunk usually gets cleaned out once a month. I take any stuff that accumulates inside and put it in the trunk so I can't see it until I can put it away thoroughly.

All my cars are currently a mess right now. The Subie has an extra strut assembly in the back that needs to be put in, along with my tools and some fluids/chemicals I used while working on it the other day. Other than that its clean.
The XR is a complete warzone of car parts. Mostly stuff I had to take off in order to get the headliner down. Also had to take the cluster out so yea its a mess.
The Camaro has no interior which means theres not much to keep clean.
Yes the only way I wont lose misc parts is if I keep them in the car they belong too lol.

The mustang gets vacuumed out about once a year, but that's all it needs. I do keep a couple chairs behind the second seat, and the trunk only has jumper cables. There's no cup holders and the glove box is rather small, so other than my service log and a torx driver, the car stays clean.
The Lexus doesn't have any junk in it, but once again the interior only gets vacuumed out once or twice a year. No wrappers or any junk like that. Any spare stuff (towels, tools, towing equipment) stows under the rear floor just on top of the spare tire well. I do have a maintenance log and maps in the door pocket and glove box, but if it can't be stowed away, it doesn't stay. I don't even like CD cases in the car.
The Subaru is sort of my truck, but I'll vacuum it out when I do the other cars.
I don't leave garbage in my car, it drives me nuts. This is all thanks to my friend Andy leaving his trash in my Suburban back in high school. He usually sat in the second seat and would throw his garbage into the third seat area and it would take a long time before I'd notice it. Of course there were no cup holders in there so any liquid was staining the floor which pissed me off to no end.
Basically I throw out any trash first chance I get, usually at gas stations. I take turns fast so I can't have this stuff flying around, you know? I'd clean them more but I have to drag out the vacuum cleaner which is sort of a pain, but with 3 cars it becomes a bit of a chore.

I know you don't daily your Mustang or anything like that, but I use one of these in both my Cougar's (split bench in one, buckets with console in the other). It works great.

I'll have to look into one of those if I go on a longer trip. I've gotten by using the center console but it's not the best place for holding cups.

They make a mustang cup holder that goes into the ashtray (50 buck-ish ouch) I got one out of the smashed car I got my motor out of. Sucks in a 5 spd car, I still, even with it use the ebrake+seat method. Cupholder serves as a good crap holder. Disregaurd the semi concious puppy, haha
