so im trying to install LEDs and im having a problem. when i first hooked up the LEDs to a power source they worked fine, no problems. (the power source was a cordless drill battery to test the lights) Now im trying to put a switch on for them and im having difficulties.

When the switch is on, im having no problems. When i turn the switch Off, the negative wires start to heat up and burn.... what am i doing wrong? anyone know of any websites that better explain this? i first tried connecting directly to the battery (positive and negative) and kept the negative wire on the negative terminal and the positive in a fuse tap.... still safe issues....

the switch is a two-prong toggle switch. + is connected to ON and - is connected to OFF.

i also have the power source going to te ON and the ground to the OFF....

Swap the switch terminals. Sounds like youre using the switch to ground and shut them off when you should be cutting the pos. Been there before..

can u elaborate a bit more on that?

Souns like you're using a toggle switch. Try swapping the wires around opposite what they are now. Theres 2 kindas of switchs some are normally open and some are normally closed. If wired wrong they can be doing what you said.

damn i thought you was gong to say something else.... more technical or something.

but same thing happens just when the switch is flipped the other way.

dont know wh it does this. i would try and splice it into some other contant wire, but im not sure if it would still do the same thing, and im not trying to just start cut wires for some shitty LEDs i found.

Could also be the switch is rated for too low of amperage? The way I do all my switches, when I flip them off it cuts the neg. like taking a neg. battery terminal off.

well i got it to work. i didnt use the switch. i put the negative to the battery and the Positive to the head light fuse.
Tap
Use the switch with a relay and a fuse for safty reasons i will elaborate more later
