I was watching sportscenter this morning and saw a commercial for the LFA. Anyone else think its pointless to advertise the lfa. im pretty sure 95% of the people who see the commercial can only dream of owning it. Seems like a waste of money to advertise is.

It's a halo car, as in it's only to promote the brand. Every source states they're losing money on the car, and they're screening intersted buyers by those who will "show off" the car. Basically they don't want the cars to be garage queens.
As for the commercial, it certainly got your attention, so it's working!

That.
The LFA has some resemblances to the other cars in the lexus line, so it draws attention and brings the brand back into the spotlight, just like the R8 did for audi.

Why are they losing money on the car?
Serious question, I really don't follow it.

They're only making 500 examples which is not enough to recover the costs of engineering, development, testing, and tooling to build it. Think of it as a driving advertising campaign.
BMW did the same thing with the Z8 a few years ago, and there were many others that aren't coming to mind at the moment.
