Drivers over 75 will require eye tests also, Step in the right direction if you ask me.
Hyland33
Definitely a good idea
Marc Letourneau
Can't say I disagree.
danigurrl
Damn I'm screwed. What about using your phone for radio? I stream Pandora via my phone through my speakers and I need to handle the phone to change the song. lol.

Yeah, but that's not texting. You aren't actively typing away on your phone while driving. Its sitting there playing music. I don't think that anyone would have an issue with that.

Nope. I just never listen to the radio. I stream Pandora through the axillary inputs in my headunits.
Marc Letourneau
Oh, Well its no different from me using my Ipod inside my car then.
bonnEVIL
can they pull you over for it?
J Kellz
im guessing they can like they do in rhode island, otherwise the law is pointless and really isnt a law
MARK
how can they prove that you were actually texting.
jcat
i like it, though I think 75 is a bit late, should be 65

Well I think they would pull you over and mistaken it as a cell phone.

IMHO.

Get a dash mount / put it in the cup holder or center console. Hands off = no problem

I gotta be honest, I'm a little on the fence about this. Not about the texting while driving ban, I'm all for that. Theres enough retards out there, give them a cellphone with a tiny keyboard and its a recipe for disaster....

What I'm kind of against is the taking away of another tiny sliver of our freedom for something pretty petty. Our gov is getting bigger and bigger, and I dont like it.

But yeah, drive dont text.

I kind of agree too. I feel like they it gives authority just another free reason to pull you over. You can't prove that you weren't texting...so it's just your word against theirs...plus it opens the driver to be ticketed for other things.

If you can't prove you weren't texting then they can't prove you were. If you really wanted to fight it, I'm sure you could get phone records from your provider to show you weren't sending/receiving messages. A LEO would have to do the same to prove you were texting if you went to court.

However I get yours and Mitch's points about how this opens things up for busting you for other things. Keep in mind your government is hurting for money so they're after any way to get it out of you. The best defense is keeping your nose clean.

As for the eye testing, why the hell don't they check EVERYONE?? Here in OH, you have to do a vision test when you renew your license, no matter your age. I personally wish they'd make you retake the entire driver's test when you renew. There's lots of people on the road of all ages that need a serious refresher on road laws.
PSquare75
After riding with Mark while he texts and drives I am all for this ban whistling.gif
wantahertzdonut
Haha, I know the feeling. An friend of mine likes to text and surf (and get my blood boiling) while driving and I'm constantly grabbing the steering wheel to keep him from driving off the road. (we don't talk much these days)
540s10
im all for banning GPS's mounted to the windshield, worst drivers ever.

PSquare75
Ehhhh. Idk about high beams.
Marc Letourneau
You can see far enough with the new cars and projectors. IMHO

Lol, my newest car is 17 years old. I put relays so the lows and highs stay on at the same time. hypnotized.gif My town also has maybe 10 street lights.

They do. Many of the aftermarket lights (even many halogen lightbulbs) say "off road use only" since they're over the legal limit. It's difficult to enforce and you'll probably only get busted if you get pulled over for something else and the officer really wants to teach you a lesson.

What happened to the cars that turn off the high beams automatically when a car came the other way?
danigurrl
I text and drive all the time. sad.gif I do it on my hour commute to work on the Pike because there is nothing else to do. It's either text or fall asleep. Both are dangerous. But I've tried blasting music, leaving the windows all the way down, and pinching myself to keep myself awake. lol. I figure texting > sleeping.

Try going to bed earlier and an iced coffee?

Try going to bed earlier and an iced coffee?

I work 3rd shift, so I sleep during the day. Up until this week, I also worked 2 jobs, so I got maximum 4 hours of sleep a day. I would LOVE to get more sleep, but the time just isn't there. There is always something going on that keeps me awake. Example: I tried to go to bed early today, and my neighbors are building a garage, so all I could hear was loud banging all day = no sleep for Dani. Now I'm awake...with 3 hours sleep...and I can't sleep anymore. sad.gif

I also don't consume caffeine. The only exception would be if I'm using a caffeinated soda product with alcohol, but that few and far between.

mis-adjusted headlights (one pointing up one down) should also be banned.... cops put trucks out of service for such things, bring it to the soccer moms
