Picked up an LT1 dual fan setup today. I was kinda lazy so I just wired both fans to come on just like the stock single fan would.
I know the dual fans are supposed to come on at intervals, but is there any problem doing it the way I did?

I'd check to see how many amps both fans pull compared to the stock fan. Doesn't seem like it would be a problem, I'd just check it anyways.

I wouldnt wire both fans to come on at once. Your gonna put a huge strain on your charging system that way. The fans will be and off constantly. I will have to find it but I know there is a way to wire up both fans to work at different RPM speeds. I am 90% sure this is how the LT1s are. Our thirdgens are set up where the primary fans just turns on at one single speed and continues to spin until the temp is below the desired setting. I think the fans on the LT1s turn on at certain speeds depending on vehicle speed, temp, A/C, etc. The guy that tuned my car has the wiring scematic he made up to allow our dual fans to work at different speeds. I will try to get it off him tomorrow for you.
GM did a shitty job of wiring the fans in our cars. I cant even count how many people have had fires due to an overloaded cicuit. Are you having cooling problems with the bird?

haha yeah. My old fan motor died, so I replaced it with the dual setup.

Did you noitce the voltage go down when both turned at at once? my dual fans, well the secondary fan, is now usless in my car due to me getting rid of the A/C and stock computer. I was actually going to run the single fan setup since it pushes more air then one smaller single fan I have now. Did I do it yet, um, no. I am waiting to get a few more things done and then I will try the dual fan multiple speed setup. You should try using distilled water and 1.5 bottles of water wetter. Thats what I run in my car in the summer and spring. It has a higher boiling point

you can do it but i would run a relay inline to cut the amperage

oh forgot to add that i had a relay, guess that makes a difference

hmm, I didnt notice if the voltage dropped significantly or not. What kind of relay would you guys suggest?

Relays ftw. I'd look into high output Bosch style 40A relays. easy to use.

Also, if you rewire the circuit then dont use small gauge wire. That was GMs problem with our cars. Id use no less then 12AWG. Below is a link that may help you. Just read through it and take some info from it. Its an article on upgrading your headlight wiring but the info still works for the fans

Thanks guys. Yeah I think I have some 10 or 12 gauge wire laying around somehere, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the link Brad, I'll definitely be reading that when I get home.
You think I can run just the one fan and be ok until I get a chance to do the relays?

I ran one fan all summer last year. Granted I never got stuck in heavy traffic and I was using distilled water, which may have help a tiny bit . Whats the avg temps there right now

70-80°. Not too bad. I really dont drive the car that much anyways. I took it out last night, and it didnt get hot enough for the fans to kick on even. But I'm taking it to school on Thursday, and I know I'll be sitting in traffic, so I'd like to have it sorted out by then.
