Well I finaly got a bike (one thats here and not on the west coast) I decided I wanted to go the retro/classic route instead of buying a newer sport bike. As it turns out the same week i buy my bike i find out my father in law is tearing down, crating, and shipping our other bike out from CA. So now we'll have the 80' Yamaha XS400 to learn on, which will then become kristi's bike (she wants me to paint it pink and magenta for her) and also my bike.

The bike i picked up is a 1973 Honda CB750. Its the model most widely used to do cafe racer conversions. When i purchased it the seller gave me a spare frame and enough spare parts to more or less build a second bike. If anyone knows a good source for parts for these bikes let me know. here she is . . .

Its already got a custom paint job on it, but ill be redoing it, color suggestions anyone ?

man working on these things is sooooo much easier then cars. I worked on the bike for maybe two hours and ive got it torn down pretty far. I found a guy selling some custom bobber / cafe parts and i found a seat which i LOVE. I guess there are only 4 of these things in existance bc thats all he made before he killed the mold. Ill post pics when i go get it. Ive also got some LED turn signals that im going to figure out if i can use.
ccwrx
leds you need a 3 wire set up on the bike

bonnEVIL
loooks interesting. i like your idea for it. god luck with it. be safe.
Walkingchaos
ok picked up the new seat and bars today. Def going to have to swap to the 75' frame. Hoping all the 73' parts will fit (although i know the side panels dont) Which means i will in fact be taking it down to bare frame and building back up.

Frame #2 tank and new seat

And a picture of the shop.

Jillyo
Good find hun, good luck with it
Walkingchaos
the work continues.

prob going to be using this frame. im going to grind off the parts of the frame for the rear pegs. smooth down the back of the frame and then media blast it and powder coat it.

Walkingchaos
Picked up a new rear wheel for the bike today. Its a 16" Harley rim laced to a chromed honda hub. gives the bike a lower stance and a wider rear tire. alot of the bobber guys use these and some of the cafe guys as well.

heres stock for comparison

Twinkie
Coming along nicely!
dosmoney
nice dude. your on your way!
Walkingchaos
the next thing to figure out is what i want to cut off the F code frame before it goes to media blasting.
Chewy
Damn Adam, moving right along. Look's like one hell of a fun project!
Walkingchaos
this shit is addictive and i dont even know how to ride the damn thing yet smile.gif Ive got an oil tank coming from canada, a brake assembly from CA, a custom headlight hood from Utah, and i just found a guy making retro look CF fenders . . . . >=) dont tell the wife.
