With its recent Fascination concept car, Mercedes-Benz previewed its next-generation CLK-Class (which might be renamed CLE or E-Class Coupe, depending who you ask). But the Fascination showcases a Shooting Brake (sport wagon) bodystyle, rather than the familiar coupe silhouette. So how will the regular 2010 CLK Coupe look?
While some publications mistakenly identified the Fascination as a preview of the new E-Class, it’s an understandable error. That’s because the new E-Class and CLK-Class will share many design cues, albeit with slightly different interpretations. Both have a quad-headlight design up front, but the CLK’s face is more rounded. The new CLK also has a smaller grille and sleeker headlights.
The CLK has long been positioned as a sort of E-Class coupe, despite always been built on the C-Class platform. Whether the new model will switch to the E-Class chassis remains to be seen, but the visual similarities will be as close as ever.
It’s not known if the convertible version will feature a soft top or a folding metal roof.
