I know some folks eliminate the charcoal canister up in the engine bay. If I was to do that, what would I do with the hoses, leave em, cap em off? I think that thing is either clogged up or totall non functional. I heard hissing from under my hood today, and I thought maybe a hose had split and i was leaking coolant, but it was the canister. Which could explain that other strange noise my car makes, which a few people here suggested could be caused by the fuel system not purging pressure.

You don't really need the EVAP canister, you can block off the hoses, you'll throw a few codes though. On older cars those systems are more trouble to maintain then they are worth.

yeah, i read that it should work to block the hoses off if I have a vented gas cap. Stupid ass car, cant wait another month til it goes in the garage and hopefully never drives with vsux power again.

Not to toot my own horn, but I came up with a pieced together OEM system for a carb that never should have had one, and it works great.. no more stinky truck on hot summer days.
Is that bird EFI or carb?

i agree, you should just cap them off. throwing the codes sucks for getting a sticker though. bottledz28 did that to his cars you might want to send him a pm and dee what he came up with.

If you cap the line in the engine bay, as well as the line on the engine wherever the canister plugs into (there should be a vacuum line running from the TB to the can), and change the gas cap, it SHOULD work. I'm not sure of a vented style gas cap that would work with the ratchet style fuel filler neck.
As for the canister.. I know on my Cavalier, it has 3 wires running into it on a harness that controll the purge solenoid. To avoid codes you could disassemble the canister so it's only the purge solenoid, plug the solenoid in, chuck the rest of it, and hide the solenoid under the hood someplace.
I had to do that with the A/C Pressure sensor on my Cavalier.. my car is Non A/C, the ECU I use has A/C. So I have a dummy sensor that I cut from the hard metal line to stop the code. It works.

its a 3.1 MPFI.
Emissions are no concern. I have a sticker guy.

If you dont care about emissions rip that shit out! I still have my canister in there, been meaning to take it out since its hooked up to nothing.

I wasnt real concerned with it, since this is only a "temporary engine" if you get my meaning. I didnt feel like dealing with the light on the dash, vacuum leaks or whatever, so it was easier to leave alone. But this is a little different. Like I said, 1 month..the cars going away. As soon as I get a few things done on the Prix.

I'm gonna check that out. Mine does sound similar to that, so it may work.
or I may ignore it and hope my car doesnt blow up.
