My VTEC is acting funny lately. It usually kicks in at around 6000-6500.
As of the last few days it hasn't been kicking into VTEC. The real kicker is that its sporadic. Once today it kicked in at like 7200 at WOT, later today it didn't kick in at all at WOT. It did seem to kick in at like 1/2 throttle in the usual place.
I am past due for an oil change, could this have something to do with it (since VTEC is based on oil pressure)?
Can anyone help?

timing belt may need to be adjusted or you may be leaking/burning oil

oil. im positive about this. mine does the same thing. its how i know its time for me to either add or change my oil. it has to do with the computer. when it has low oil or bad oil it wont hit vtec because it doesnt want to destroy the engine. just change it up. problem solved.

change the oil and see what happens. if the oil is thin the pressure will be lower than usual. since it does work off oil pressure like you said. hopefully that solves the problem

if you really let it go, you will have an inconvenient rev limiter that will only allow you to rev to 4 grand. its a pain in the arse.

Like it was stated earlier it is mainly due to your not mantaining your oil. But it should not be so easily effected just from a couple of extra miles on a change. I would replace the gasket on the vtec soleniod if I were you. If its never been done your due for one anyway. I promise you it will help.

its not an oil issue. well i mean it needs to be changed but not the problem. check your timing, and then check the vtec solenoid and cam sensors. mine was acting up kinda like that. change the vtec solenoid and she purrs like a champ till i hit vtec

was it your oil bro? that should be the first thing you check. our car burns a pretty good amount of oil. just top it off and see what happens. you should be good. just do another oil change if you passed 3k miles after your last one. if thats not the case then a little more diagnostics will be needed. btw are you throwing any cel's?
