Really not worth it. It's the same motor in a lighter car. 83's and 84's are C.I.S. (Continuous Injecting System) motors. 86 was the last year of the C.I.S. motors. To be honest your best bet is to put a 93 to 95 motor which would be the 2.0 Crossflow motor. It's a direct fit and is easy to switch over to digi wiring harness which was used up to 92 and it's fuel injected and also OB1 should be a direct swap for that too and thats 93 to 95.

and if anything if you were to swap a motor from another mk2 into your car you'd be alot better of with a 2.0 16v, not the 1.8 16v and definitely not another mk2 8v...the 2.0 crossflow setup as stated before is a great swap for mk1'2 and mk2's...if you really wanna spice it up swap a vr6 in that bitch. you'll have a fast lil car if you do that

I've wanted a MKI or MKII Golf/Jetta with a VR swap, they are really slick cars.

The rabbit would be bad ass with a VR in it but so much work involved with that setup. A 1.8t would be really nice should be a direct bolt in.

they are cool fun cars yes the motor will swap right over as long as it is 86 you won't need the computer or anything else. I always wanted to do a vrt swap but never got to it. Once you get one and start messing with it you will be in love with the driving experience and fun of it.
