Full Version: Need Some Help With The Cobra!

The Cobra (1999, the bastard year) has been out of commission the past few weeks due to a fuel problem. Me and the wife went out a few weeks back-no problem with the car. It sat for a few days and I decided to take it to the shop but it wouldn't start. It turns over but I don't hear the fuel pump prime. What's the easiest way to diagnose this? Bad CCRM (And if so, how the fuck do you get to it)? Bad pump? The safety switch in the trunk isn't tripped so I don't think it's that. (yes, it has gas)

I hardly have any time to figure it out with my job(s) and getting dark so freaking early. I figured I'd post up to you guys to get some ideas on where to start!
Might be time to fix it and sell it, not much time for it these days anyhow. mecry.gif

If the fuel pump isn't coming on, I would go with the basics first. Check the fuse, then relays.....worst case scenario it may be the pump. If it wasn't whining bad I wouldn't think that was the issue though.

Did you check if its a code...?

No light.
Can it throw a code with no CEL?
I don't have a functioning reader. Anyone suggest a decent (cheaper the better) one?

Muffler bearings are good, I replaced them last time I did an oil change.

Look as though the Fuel Pump Relay Switch is part of the cluster of relays Ford calls the CCRM. I thought I had read that the fuel pump relay was in the trunk but I guess not, maybe earlier years.

Now instead of replacing 1 relay I have to replace the whole cluster (Constant Control Relay Module [CCRM]) Damnit. hoppingmad.gif

i think it would be easier to sell the car to me wink.gif

Easy way to test is to see if the wires going to the fuel pump are getting power with a voltmeter.

i know what it is and you probably know too your just over looking it. take a look at the emblum on the car and it will show you that they circled the problem!!!!!!! j/k man. hope you figure it out

Like mentioned before, check to see if the pump is getting power when the key is turned to the run postion. Your gonna need a helper to do this. If there is no power then you can check further into those relays things that car has or trace the wiring back and looks for breaks in the wiring or corroided terminals. if there IS power(12-14V) to the pump then I would look into the pump itself being bad. Does your car have a fuel pressure test port somewhere on the fuel rails? If so then you can try putting a cheap fuel pressure gauge on it and see what happens when you crank the car over. If your getting power to the pump AND the gauge is reading what that car should have for pressure then the problem is most likely somewhere else.
