This how-to shows you how to spice up your interior with a little color. This is a real attention getter and looks real nice when not overdone.

Parts
  • Plastic Adhesion Promoter - Available at any auto body supply store
  • Spray paint - color of your choice. I used custom mixed paint, matched to the color of my car, in spray can form. Most 'real' auto body supply stores can mix this for $20. You can also use pretty much any other paint
  • Paper and masking tape
  • Sand Paper, 400 grit
  • Prep All, or some other heavy duty grease and wax remover.
Notes: Make sure your part, paint, and air temperature is at least "room temperature". Paint WILL do funny things if the air or part is cold. Also, BE PATIENT.

1.Remove all of the parts you want to paint. Every piece that I painted just snaps on and off, so there are no screws to mess with or anything (unless you do the gauge trim, then there are two torx screws to remove to remove the pod). Just be careful not to break anything wink.gif ).

2. Clean the part you will be sanding with the Prep All, wipe, and allow to dry.

3. Using water and the sand paper, sand the part lightly with the 400 grit paper. No need to go hard or for too long, just make sure everything is lightly scuffed.. You want the part to lose any glossiness it had.

4. Repeat #2

5. Using masking tape, mask off areas on each piece that you don't want to receive paint, such as the backs of the parts, and different parts on the air vents

6. Spray on a couple light coats of the plastic adhesion promoter. Be sure to get everything coated good, or the paint wont stick right and will probably chip off easily. Allow to dry per the instructions on the can (usually an hour or so).

7. Now spray on the color of your choice. Make sure you use several light coats, not one heavy coat to, avoid runs. Follow the instructions on the paint can to achieve the best results. Allow to dry thoroughly for at least an hour, not more than 24 hours.

6. Apply a few coats of clear coat spray paint, to add a high shine and to add extra durability. This step is optional. Depending on the paint you use, you may or may not like the appearance of it.

7. Once everything is good and dry (OVERNIGHT), remove all the masking tape. You can carefully scrape off any paint that got where you didn't want it with a sharp x-acto knife.

8.Now you can put all the pieces back in your car in the reverse order of removal and marvel at your new accented interior pieces!
