meh there ok, i think we have had this discussion before andrew but in case you forgot, my buddie had one, we put my saab up against it for shits and giggles. stock saab 9-3 @ 16psi est. 200hp vs. 03 wrx, sti intercooler, turbo back exhaust, intake, and i think im missing something, 14psi (i think), saab took it, hard to believe i know, but it did, wrx cost 18000, saab cost 5000. lol. for the $ you can get something better like glen said.

Personally i like them...nice 4door performance machine. I personally will never own a non-turbo four cylinder car so they are on the list along with Cobalts and Skittles(srt4's for those who dont know my weird terms) I just think its easier and cheaper to build a turbo car than a non turbo..I love the AWD because you dont hafta worry about traction unless your pushing some serious power..however no burnouts sucks haha...the way i see it is throw an intake, turbo-back, tuner, uppipe, and turn up the boost and call it a day...then just make it look more pretty than it is haha

I'm a fan. A bug eye one would be what I would look into if I ever needed another DD. Check the maintenance records because I want to say the timing belts go on the relatively quickly if they aren't replaced on time, I'm not 100% so don't quote me. And I would choose a WRX over the SRT all day but thats because I'm not really a neon person..

The awd is the best there is. The only other awd that is even close is the quattro. You can make plenty of power with the subies as well. The trannys are a little weak on the 02/03 models but 142k and it runs awesome. The only issue I have had is when I ran an Exedy clutch it went after 22k miles. I know people that have SRTs and they don't have the reliability, awd, and they have major torque steer. I work for a Subaru dealer and I have seen plenty of highly modified wrx/sti come in and have had no issues. I do like the older models like Britts but they take a lot of work to turn them into a turbocharged beast (but it can be done) but if you are looking for a car that is easy to modify and can make some good power for little money the wrx is the way to go. If you have any questions or want to go for a ride in one feel free to pm me or stop by one of our Subaru meets.
My mods engine mods:
Helix Catless up and down pipe
Stage 2 tune (open ecu)
STi tmic
AEM Intake
Stock Trans
ACT Clutch
Greddy EVO exhaust
I have a VF39 (STi turbo)
565cc STi injectors
255 lph Walbro fuel pump
These will be going on towards the end of the winter. With those mods I should be around the 300whp mark.

I think that they are great cars. They are built well and engineered to last. I drive one everyday (my girlfriends) that has 140k on it and it has not had a single major repair done to it and neither has it needed one. It has light bolt ons and some tuning and I feel its a very respectable car. They handle above par for the its price range and look and sound good at the same time. If you have the money an STi is only going to even better. Both vehicles are geared rather short so they are great for moving off a light (STi even shorter with the 6spd) and with there AWD systems that can't be beat wont matter the condition or power output you will leave that light hard. If you are looking to making amazing power number to impress your friend these are not the cars to buy, due to the head design and flow characteristics of the engine they do not make insane numbers. But if your looking for a car that makes the very most out of the power that it makes, whether its 220 or 300 from the factory these car will impress anyone who is open to the idea of a fast 4 cyl 4 door grocery getter.

Due to the catalytic converter inside of it, it is a point of high restriction in the exhaust system and is a common source of some readily availible power gains in this car.

Not if it is tuned correctly. Thats the same regardless of the car. I own a 412whp honda and it passes a sniff test better than most cars with a catalytic converter. An efficiently running engine is an efficiently running engine regardless of what modifications are done to it. The ony thing that matters is whats going on inside the combustion chamber, the fact that you have factory plumbling on either side of the motor or not is not what matters.

Britts Boyfriend has a HKS BOV on his wrx and he said its been running a little funny lately

My mistake. I meant to say HKS 3 in exhaust. And its the "Hi-Power" I dont think they make anything but.
Not a real big issue with power loss but it does seam to run a bit rich right after pressure release. Until I have time to go in and tune it myself to fix it I will just deal with it. Its a problem with all MAF cars that get modded to an unrecirculated BOV.
The harnesses are sweet, do you have the bar?
