Above are all OEM mitsu parts and these items should be used. Prices are in the general range what you should be spending. It is highly reccomended that when doing timing components, you replace: the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, & pulley and if you still have your balance shafts in, you replace the belt and pulley. Alot of people think replacing just the timing belt is enough... well its not. This is when you usually hear someone say "my timing belt broke" or "my timing jumped teeth". Mostly that is due to people not using new parts. Of course an installation issue could be a factor but the majority of the time, its a part failure wether it be an old balance shaft breaking and destroying your timing belt, your timing belt being old then breaks, you re-used your tensioner and it doesnt hold tension resulting in jumped teeth, etc.

To address the balance shaft removal idea, I personally think its a great idea to eliminate them. Its one less thing to go wrong, its less rotating mass resulting in faster RPMs, and one less thing to maintain. It is said that people have felt vibrations in there motor after a removal. Yes you will feel a slight difference in vibrations on a 100% stock motor but if you have motor mount inserts and such, you will feel nothing. It is also said that because of the extra vibrations, nuts & bolts come loose. This is not true at all. Follow torque specs and you will be fine. I think using an aftermarket harmonic damper is a good idea as its cheap insurance for your internals for cars with or without balance shafts removed although, an aftermarket damper on a stock car is overkill.

Balance shafts can be removed while the motor is still in the car on a 1G only. In order to remove them from a 2G, you need to pull the motor.

Head Gasket

90-99 (6&7bolt)
Composite head gasket- [MD183808] $40
Mitsu 4layer MLS head gasket- [] $78
Cometic 3layer MLS head gasket:
- std. bore COM-C $77
- .020 over COM-C4234-05 $100
- .030 over COM-C4233-05 $100
- .040 over COM-C4156-05 $100
ARP head studs:
90-92.5 (6bolt) ARP207-4201 $85
92.5-99 (7bolt) ARP207-4203 $110

A composite head gasket is made of a softer material that will form around any imperfections in both surfaces where as a MLS (multi-layer steel) gasket wouldnt.

My view about what head gasket you should use depends on a few things. First, I would like to clear up that re-using 6bolt stock head bolts is fine but re-using 7bolt head bolts is not! 7bolt head studs stretch resulting in the head lifting and a blown head gasket. THROW AWAY YOUR 7BOLT HEAD BOLTS!!!

ARP head studs and a composite gasket is good for roughly 25psi and people have pushed them further. A composite head gasket is fine for most applications. ARP head studs and a MLS gasket is good for 35psi+ but in order to achieve a perfect seal with a MLS gasket, both the block and head need to be resurfaced. The surfaces must be 100% flat and have a mirror finish. Although, people have gotten away without resurfacing, I do not reccomend it.
