Full Version: Which Drift Car Is Better

Hey, all you fuckers need to stay away from an Rx-7. At least learn about it first.

The Rx-7/8 has 2 rotors, the JC Cosmo (a japan only luxury coupe) has 3 rotors. This motor is commonly swapped into the Rx-7 and Rx-8

Original question:
The Rx-7 is a great 50/50 balanced car with a huge aftermarket. But honestly, the DTSS (rear steer) suspension is designed for all out grip. It would need to be eliminated to work well in drift.

I would go with a 240 or even an AE86 as they seem to be a better platforms for drift.
LS6rally
wow a little hostile??? no one said i was gonna buy a mazda the question was stated and i was curious. chill
LSRengineering
Dont worry about it drew. Hes the only one on here with a Rotary engine so hes a little hostile. I guess its far superior to what GM and Ford make.
DC_jahnnie
i'd have to say the 240sx. nice and easy platform to start with. EXTREMELY popular drift car in japan. so is the rx-7 though but the 240sx will just make things easier on you. IMO the rx-7 is more for the "advanced" driver. if it were for autox though i'd choose the FC wink.gif

nowhere in his post did he say that and when he said you fuckers hes talking to the people who want them and have no idea what they are and how they opperate

smilie_party_food.gif ya'll forget that the 240 was built for drifting?

if you want a drift car get a 240sx s13 with an rb20det. its an inline 6 turboed. or go with a 94 240 s14 with a sr 20det. its a 4 cyl turboed. the sr makes just a little more power than the rb when stock for stock. VikingWarCry.gif

Why the rb20? When for not much more you can get the RB25. The extra displacement, more torque, of the 2.5 liter motor would really help you out drifting wise the way i see it.

I wouldn't waste my money on the rb26 just way to much damn money to get one and getting parts for it.

ae86 mmmmmm love those old school carolla gts

this is true but the rb25 is heavier than the sr20. both are good but i prefer the sr better. my 95 240s14 has the rb20det in it and ima tear it out and sell it. it has i believe 15k on it and it i guess was rebuilt with performance parts i dunno. bought the came while im in afghanistan. i am going to steal my boys sr20 from he and he has nooo idea lol

Yea for a 240 I'd go with the sr. Just is more "natural" for it IMO. Now something like a s30 it has to be an inline 6, in my eyes at least.

Dude you came on here swearing because people didnt know something on a engine no one cares about. Whos the one starting drama when you come on calling people fuckers.

How about next time you explain instead of just calling people names?

WTF are you talking about?

And I was right about rotaries having 3 rotors.. well some of them.

It would be more useful if you came on and explained rather than Just bitching.

Feel free to educate us then on the wonders of the rotary. Whenever someone hates on RX7/rotary engines, you get all defensive, but offer little rebuttal except "haters". Sort of like an Obama supporter that gets redfaced when asked what "YES WE CAN" means.. Can what?

Here's what little I know about them in no particular order

They spin to the moon, both quickly, and smoothly
It's possible to 'stack rotors' in essence adding another 'cylinder' and hence, displacement.
They ran so dirty that a huge air pump was needed to clean up the exhaust.
They have oil control issues (picky shut down sequence, start sequence)
Many a mechanic rolled their eyes when an RX7 rolled into their shop.
Mazda had a little pickup truck with them in the 70s, that was sort of like a Courier.

Maybe start a thread as to why these engines are Gods gift to the world in internal combustion engine form?

Gotta say I can attest to the fact that the Rotary motors rev so smoothly that when driving an rx7 before buying mine, I found myself continuously bouncing off the rev limiter because I didnt realize the engine was winding up that high.

They have a very different feel to them, after the pushrod swap, now my car feels more like a viper than an Rx7.
LSRengineering
I guess this is how it works...

maybe im dumb but i thought RX7's hada 3 rotor setup in the motor and four was a high perf set up

How many times do I have to explain to you hill billies that an rx7 doesnt come with 3 rotors?

Psquared: How many times on the old Rekless board did I break down the myths of the rotary for you?

I personally dont care if you know or dont wanna know... But why come in here and talk like you know when youve never even seen a rotor in your life...

You dont suck because you dont own one, you suck because you choose to stay ignorant, and continue yapping...

I never once said i knew anything about rotaries. But you came in here and called me a Fucker??? Yea im the one who ignorant i guess. Anyway until you can show respect dont expect anyone to respect you. We dont need people like that on this board
LSRengineering
Easy boys...

Ronin, could you please explain the internals(or lack there of) of a Mazda rotary engine so some of us can understand better? Is that picture I posted about as accurate as it gets?

Who is "We"? You have a mouse in your pocket? Your just a member of this forum like I am...

84ta406: In another thread, a member had a question posted in hopes of resolving a Vtec issue. Only to get berated by the V8 Nazis that reside on this board. Just in this thread there is so much crap spoken. Now you want me to contribute a comprehensive discussion on an imported engine to that same board? I DON'T THINK SO...

So many members ive referred to this site, unfortunately they see this is what its about and leave after 2-3 posts. It takes all the recent recruitment efforts and flushes it down the tubes.

Rekless needs Moderators that are less biased toward American cars..

LSRengineering
I'm not biased one but. Thats why I asked for more info. I like learning.

I've learned alot about Nissans from neil. I've learned a lot about honda motors since my gf picked up her 95 teg.

In that other thread there was only a few comments made and all in good humor from the moderating team. I'm sure the OP didnt mind seeing as how hes friends with most the people from the board.

I agree steph. Ronin if you want to discuss things feel free to PM me, my box is never full.
LS6rally
alright Ronin i apoligize. im not here to start anything. im not against imports. i learned a little about wankle's in high School. but i forgot most of it, mostly because of the lack or common use in the real world. you dont see to many at Midas. and now i dont even work on cars other than my own.Anyways i would like to suggest that you make a tech article so we can all read about them and there will no longer be a misunderstanding on how the wankle engine works. it is quite intreguing when you see the little vid that ta put up. if i remember they use reed valves and the apex seals are like piston rings and each opening is a "Cylinder". i may be wronmg and im not trying to spread false info. id like to learn how they really work. so if youd like to write an acticle i would read it.
