hey fam. i am getting a new car come spring or maby sooner, and i want to buy a mustang i think. i like the look, feel and performance and well...it sure beats the import jap cars i've been blowing through. sooooo. i kinda need your help on crossing over.
what should i look for?
- I want a newer body style like a 96 or 02
V6 and mod it? or V8 and be happy stock?
- I dont want to spend a shitload for no difference.
My budget is very tight so what should i look for mechanically?
- i can wrench on cars just fine but i just don't know the old ford signs of disaster.
ANY info would help me out. I have a feeling Nelson will be on here looking out for me as well.
I see you guys as my online Family as i can't afford to go to many of the meets so I appreciate your imput.

I d find a SN95 Cobra (96-98) with higher mileage and good paint, you can find here and there for $6000-7000k,do some mild ,mods (X pipe,4.10 gears, KN filter ,lowering springs) and you have a great car that handles well and is fun to drive.....

Those cars only have 200hp??? I thought the 87-93 cars had 225?

I had an 03 GT, and it wasn't the quickest thing to ever be created, but it was decent. Given, it wasn't stock, but it did all right. My SS feels far superior in the performance category, though. The 99-2004 GT's are a good stock car, but not the most mod-friendly engine to ever be created (assuming you are doing basic bolt-ons)
You can't beat the deals you may find on '96-'98 Cobra's. Some steals are out there. For a little more money (well, maybe a lot), you can pick up a 2001 Cobra for a decent price. Low mileage ones still have a steep price tag on them, though.

The 96-98 GT's were rated at 215-225 at the flywheel.....Shammy's figures are off on some slight details.

i would go with a cobra 95 cobras are cheaper then 96+ ones cause 95s car 5.0s 96+ are 4.6's

94-95 Cobras are dogs though....245 hp and they weren't much better overall over the comparable GT's of the same years....96-98 Cobras shit all over them ALL day

I have a 2002 V6 and i'm happy with it. I mean just with a true dual exhaust the thing goes decent, it ain't a V8 but the V8 can't touch this fuel economy. If your looking for cheap (can get one for $7K and under) and good on gas then look no further than the 99-04s. Plus the look of of this gen is very nice and has minimal to no rust.
