Is the engine loosing coolant?

are there any problems with the truck right now, I mean does it run shitty....losing coolant?
05sonic3valve
yea whats the issue with the truck, is the muffler bearing rattling or what.
Nick?
nope it is running good i looked at it today theres no coolant leaking and no white smoke

the guy said theres cracks around the valves but it would be leaking if there where right?

StayinStock
2,500
god damn!!
wait a couple months and you can buy a new dodge truck for that much
Samoclese
to have no real symptoms, is an issue with me. I am starting to think this mechanic is just trying to take your relative for a ride. If you are really unsure about it, then take the truck to another mechanic tell them the story that the first mechanic said, just ask for a second opinion.

+1 I agree.
LSRengineering
Unless its smoking or running like shit then that guy is a tool. Theres no way to tell if its a cracked head with them on the truck.

Get the new heads and I'll do it for 300 smile.gif
PSquare75
BOTH heads have cracks around the valves? That sounds suspicious.

Does your relative tow/beat on the truck?
LSRengineering
Yup I agree, it could be many things. Cant tell unless the heads are pulled.

Useless mechanics ftl!
Nick?
yea the truck is beat on it pulls his work trucks around and he never drives slower than 80 in it

josh ill let you kno waiting to hear from glen about the heads
Bad Max
my guess is it has a slight skip and popping noise out the exhaust, as for the mechanic who looked @ it he's most likely right. i've replaced many 5.2 and 5.9 heads for cracked/burned exhaust seats. no smoke means the rings are ok, probably did a leak down test and found those 2 cylinders were high, and heard the air leaking out the exhaust. i love all you guys that tinker with your car a little on the weekend and tell this guy he's definately getting screwed. I'm a.s.e. master certified if he wants to give me a call i'll take a look @ it for him. pm me for my cell number if you want.
05sonic3valve
find someone you trust local and ask them to do a compression test, that would be step 1. and like has been said, what was his initial reason for bringing it to the mechanic??? this is important.
Nick?
he went and got tune up and they said it needed heads
Bad Max
Why did he go for a tune up ? skipping or just maintenance ?
BoostedDakota
james try gettin a holt of tj for heads. i called but he never called back. see if you can get a hold of him
LS6rally
like its been said.. do a compressiona nd leakdown test and go from there. but id say that you should have it looked at by someone else. and if they say the same, pull the heads yourself and check them.
