bigger!

4inch suspension, 2 inch body, biggest wheels you can fit, if youre not gonna go big dont bother.

depends what your intentions are with it. If its a daily driver then I wouldnt go crazy on a lift kit. maybe 4" at the most and get a taller tire. The wheels you have on there now are nice. Maybe a set of some newer hummer wheels would look nice too.

As good as my truck is in the snow, that would be the stupidest thing i ever did. I don't beloieve in lowering 4wd, 4 goes up, 2 goes down
Kady
Jan 11 2009, 05:12 AM
I'd rather go 6 inches. Cause the tires that can fit on with 4 are just way too small. the trucks are way to long for tires that size. it looks silly
And it is my daily driver, and I need it for work on sometdays So i can't go crazy

if your gonna lift it definitely need to put bigger tires or it will just look silly

id say a 6 inch and 35's , like you said a 4 only gets you 33's and it looks to small.

Def a 6 inch lift. 33's still look small on a Suburban. I got a 3 inch body lift in my Blazer and the guy who had it before me had to angle cut the front valance so they would clear while turned. If you go 4 inch you'll always wish you spent the little extra money for a 6 inch. As they say "go big or go home"
I hate it when people lower trucks. You take away 80% of the reasons why people buy trucks in the first place.

Kady, do you plan on swapping wheels or just putting something more aggressive on the ones you have now? The wheel son there now fetch a few dollars on ebay. I was looking for those fo rmy 2500 last year and they were going for $400 for a set.

believe it or not they don't someone i use to know had em and they were good. honestly though i wouldn't lift your truck unless you were gonna use the lift for wheelin and having fun it isn't worth it. plus your truck is nice the way it is but you should do what you want since it is yours after all

A small lift would be good. Just keep in mind they aren't cheap with the independent front end. When I had my Sub a few years ago I looked into it, and 4" kits were starting around $2k, 6" kits were around $3k. It's a lot of work to install too, but nothing that will end the world. (maybe a weekend with a few hands to help) It's just not as easy as lifting a truck with a solid axle.
Going by the pictures the 6" definitely looks the best, you just have to take it in the mud once in a while with the 35-6" tires!
With larger tires you may want to look into changing your gear ratios, otherwise you'll lose a lot of low-end grunt. You'll also need to recalibrate your spedometer or it will always read low. It may not seem like a big deal, but I have 2 vehicles with spedometers that are off and it gets really annoying eventually. You'll also need to watch your brakes. They'll need to work harder to stop the truck and in turn will wear faster. Oh, mud tires will absolutely kill gas mileage. Just something to think about.
Finally, don't go the big rim route. It looks too ghetto-fab.
Good luck, and be sure to post pics in here when you're done!

Jan 12 2009, 03:06 PM
Thanks for the input.. I've done research on it, I know about all the work it involves... and kits don't cost nearly that much anymore
Walkingchaos
Jan 12 2009, 03:25 PM
believe it or not it or not i think i saw a 6" kit for that truck on CL the other night. Dont remember the cost but it def wasnt thousands.
wantahertzdonut
Jan 13 2009, 08:45 AM
That's good prices came down, but I wouldn't know since I haven't researched it for several years. (I sold my truck back in 2001) Seeing how there aren't so many of the old straight axle trucks around anymore, I would hope more 89+ kits would be on the market.

Kady, my buddy Joey has a 94 Burb lifted 2" with 33's on it, you can take a look at it if you want. If you want a full suspension lift I would look into tuff country they are reasonable and pretty tough too. If you wanna try my hummer wheels ask Zack he can get one or all four so you can try them.
