Full Version: Polishing Alloys

I stripped my factory wheels over the summer. I did all the steps with different grits of wetsanding. They had a nice shine when I put them away until winter. Now they went back to a dull finish. I'd like a few suggestions on any kind of compound or something else I can try. Don't care much if some methods don't work, they're only winter wheels. I just don't want to invest alot of cash. When I use Mother's aluminum polish they have a nice shine but the salt and snow takes it off in a couple of days. Like I said, I want to do this for cheap.

I persoanlly like mothers, but you should also use a coat of wax over that.

Polish them back with the mothers polish. Then maybe use that neverdull crap. I've heard its supposed to keep things shiney longer. dunno.gif Or clear coat em. Idk I'm not to big on shiney metal.

Mothers Ftw.. and if u don't wanna do the work, get a power ball for ur drill.. another really good polish is wenol
Terry
I tried wax by itself but not with the Mother's, I'll give that a shot. I have some buffing pads but no power ball. I don't want a chrome shine, just keep the dull away. I'll try all suggestions when it gets over 40 degrees or so. Whenever that is.

yeah, do mothers then a coat of wax, the wax helps to keep stuff off.

What speed should I buff with ? My power drill is high speed and my cordless is variable but it's a cheapy. No clue what the RPM's are.

Like Kady said ..Powerball with mothers....then wipe some furniture shit like Endust over them so the salty water rolls off.......

I did buy a kit from them. It came with two compounds, white and red. Also, three buffing wheels.
