Is it normal to lose 5 pounds of pressure in your tires in one day?? I took my car to town fair tires on monday to have my car aligned and for them to check a slow leak in the front right tire (went from 45 to 15 in about 1 1/2 month)...i believe they put a new valve on there but i filled them all to 45 when i got home and now the back and front right are at 40 while the other two are about 44....is this normal?

while slight variances occur do to temp i would consider 5lbs a bit excessive. check it in the morning before driving it and if its lost more then take it in to be fixec.

The tires are low profile and the tire says max 50 psi. When I asked the guy what it should be set at he said between 42 and 48 but everybody I have asked has told me something different....

the molecuoles in the tire will increase the pressure due to heat as mentioned but im surprised you have yours that high to begin with? I always thought 30-35 was pretty much the avg

+1
As for your leak. You sure you don't have any nails/screws in the tire? Look real good it could be a small one. Also another thing that could be leaking is the bead.

I originally had 35 in them this past summer but a friend of mine told me they were too low because a line was starting to show on the tire because it was too low and wasn't wearing on the tread but on the tire itself...I've called/asked so many people and have gotten SO many different answers....

personally i think its a waste of money to use nitrogen.
i run a non oem size tire on my car and constantly have to check the pressure. you have to "read" your tire wear to know if your running the correct pressure. and by that i mean if its wearing out in the middle of the tire then you have to much pressure. if your wearing out the sides of the tire, then to little pressure.

you loose 1LB of air for every 10* ...so if it was 45* when air was put in and it dropped overnight down to 5*...theres your 5 LBS....35 LBS is the Norm...But i'd check your door Jamb too for the correct Tire Lbs.......

Are you losing 5psi a day? Sure, it's definitely normal for Town Fair Tire to not fix the actual problem depending on what it is. When I took my tires to them when mine were leaking, they'd just toss on a new valve stem.
Town Fair Tire won't identify your leak though. I wanted TFT to fix my leaking tire before. They threw a new stem on. Still leaked. I ran the tire under the hose and noticed I had multiple leaks around the rim. So I had the tire replaced. Unfortunately I still had a stupid leak because it turned out my rim had a very small hairline crack in it. I had leaks everywhere. Sometimes you gotta diagnose problems yourself or have a friend or family member do it. Town Fair or Firestone don't put a ton of effort into it.
FWIW, I hate Town Fair and typically go to Firestone in Seekonk if I need tires put on. They are very good and have good service and don't cost a ton of money.

Most tires should be set 2 to 3 lbs lets then whats its call for as for the leak it could also be the insert in the stem could be bent
