Full Version: Fuel Pump Line Upgrade?

Here's my engine.

Note the fuel feed line.

It's 3/8" hard line from the fuel pump, to the -8an filter, to the 3/8 Holley dual line.

I bit the bullet and will be going 1/2" aluminum line the whole way from the tank, to a 172 gph mech pump. The pump has -10 inlet and -8 outlet.

I bought a roll of the -8 AQP Socketless hose to go between the fuel tank sender and line, as well as the line to the fuel pump..

I have 3 options that I can see.

1. Recreate that hard line from the carb dual feed >> filter >> pump using the aluminum 1/2" line and AN fittings.

2. Replace that hard line from the carb dual feed >> filter >> pump using the AQP socketless hose and secure it to the engine with some brackets.

3. Just plumb in the existing hardline to the -8 fuel pump outlet...

I don't like #1. I feel like the aluminum line is 'fragile'. Am I right?

I know lots of guys use regular fuel hose all along their engine bay and shouldn't.. The AQP stuff seems damn sturdy however.

As for #3. isn't that going to be a big restriction? or is the duel feed line a restriction anyway, and I should get a feed like that accepts -8 fittings anyway?

Engine is a carsbycarl 523, street toy/daily driver.. right now ~375hp at the wheels, the most I ever see myself upgrading to is ~450hp

What do you guys think?

I peronally hate running hardlines. If money isnt an issue in this part of your project then Id run braided SS fuel lines. Much easier to work with and a lot easier to remove if need be. I would have gone that route on my car but there was no need too. I found brand new OEM replacement lines from the dealer for $40. I think I picked up thelast known ones GM had in stock. I did however use all bradied lines under the hood.

Shit aint cheap huh Paul. Hoses, fittings, adatpers, rails. FPR, pump(s), filter(s).. shit gets real expensive real fast.I about shit my pants when I got the total for all the stuff for just under the hood of my car.

Hes using the aeroquip socketless hoses. they use -AN fitting. I too hate hardlines under the hood.

I'd personally just use the hard line, there is really no good explanation to use the SS unless it is a flex area which requires hose. It is a lot cheaper to use the hard lines, plus it is a lot easier then you'd think. Just pick up a tube bender and flare set, and don't turn back. Oh and you would need a decent size tube bender up to 5/8" to do the -10 line from tank to the front, then run -10 SS hose to the pump and hard line the -8 up to the carb. For AN fittings IIRC the number is relative to 16ths, so -8 would be 8/16 (1/2") and -10 would be 10/16 (5/8"). Have fun either route you choose, but I would just keep my budget clear for some other nice mods wink.gif

I won't go the braided route, both price, it seeps, and I don't want to be changing this stuff every 2 years (there's been issues with it on 460ford, and other sites..). If I were running it, I'd be changing it NOW and I have maybe 150 miles on the setup..
