Since we are half way into the winter season, and many of us aren't getting the opportunity to go cruising around the streets or strip, lets bench race. How this will go: A person will pick two vehicles and we will argue about which vehicle will have the performance advantage. When those two vehicles are fizzled out two more vehicles will be selected to go head to head.
Here are the first two vehicles to consider:
2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP vs. 1970 Amc AMX
Both Two seaters. Both from two totally different generations. Both very light weight. And Both Domestic vehicles. We are talking stock platforms. Obviously with older Muscle cars we can consider modern tires as the old poly tires weren't really too good for dragging.

Which motor i the AMX, makes a bit of a diffrence...
I pick the AMX, with modern tires I think it'll hook better than back in the day and run a decent time.

He said in his 1st post to substitute for newer tires. They both run similar times though. A yenko on slicks is capable of high 10's
And 99 T/A, the older poncho motors had too much tq. and would make just about any tire break free and lose traction. The LS1 is a good motor and its been proven to run low 13's/high 12's on stock tires with a good driver

New tires vs. new tires. Say the new vette gets eagle F1's consider the yenko with a set of eagles etc.

hey the IROC was a better Handler too

I pick IROC since I'm a GM guy mainly but those 5 speed stangs were quick stock for stock.
I also pick 04 GTO

I'm liking the decisions thus far.. so lets keep it going
1994 Lumina Z34 vs. 1995 Ford Taurus SHO
SHO has the top end. z34 will get it out of the hole then the SHO will just pass it.

I don't like this thread because he arguments get lost way too fast before the next one starts.
In most cases I would agree with some picks but not all. An 89 5.0 LX with a 5 speed will beat an IROC with the 5.7
I also would pick the 69 T/A over the 99 if they are both stock but on slicks......OP didn't state the "newer" tires had to be street tires.

Well lets focus on one set of vehicles at a time then. How about we go back to square one:
Amx vs. Solstice GXP
hsssss
Feb 2 2009, 06:04 PM
No drag slicks......AMX with a 360 would lose ..but a 390 AMX might take the Pontiac on a green track

Feb 2 2009, 06:37 PM
Also the "Go-Pack" would make a considerable difference as the functional ram air on the 390 boosts her up a few ponies. I think with modern tires the AMX would pull the GXP out of the hole since the greater tq makes a huge difference if the driver doesn't spin. The GXP would catch up on the top end, it would be close. Drivers race IMHO
GXP 14.2 1/4 (albeedigital)
AMX 14.6 1/4 (car and driver)
