looky looky on the rule change...... The Bud Shootout no longer features pole winners from the previous season.

The new Shootout format features the top six teams from each manufacturer (Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, and Toyota) based on owners' points from the previous season, plus four wild cards, one for each manufacturer.

There are two ways a team/driver becomes a "wild card" with the former trumping the latter.

1. Any owner outside of the top six in year end 2008 owners' points whose driver is a past NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion that attempted to qualify for all of the 2008 events (only one position will be filled per manufacturer and will be based on the most recent past champion per manufacturer).

2. If an owner/manufacturer does not have a past champion driver, the next highest eligible owner outside the top six in year end 2008 owners' points from each manufacturer will be eligible to compete in the event.

The race will be split into two segments, 25 laps, followed by a short intermission and ending with a 50-lap run. The lineup was set by a blind draw.

The wild card positions were not part of the new format at first. I think the reason for the wild card position was because Tony Stewart wouldnt be eligable for the 09 shootout. Now concidering he is a past winner of the race AND a past champion, he felt he had earned the right into that race. I guess nascar took a long look at it and came up with the "Tony Stewart card". I like Tony and I totally agree with him bitchin about not being able to make this years shootout just because he started his own team and had no points to fall back on. I would be pissed too.

But anyways, good race last night. Lots of decent wrecks and luckily my guy managed to escape most of them and come from last to take the win.

Oh Man, thay guy got creamed. That red flagged the race and cut both of those drivers out of their cars. They never showed a replay of the wreck. Maybe its on youtube. The drivers are ok now though. Im sure they are feeling it
