I've been autocrossing for 5 years now. The place to go is Devens airfield. Multiple clubs run there. BMWCCA, NER, Miata club, SVT club, SHO club, probably more... I run with the Boston BMWCCA.

Various websites which will give you more information and how to sign up:
www.ner.org
www.boston-bmwcca.org
www.svtoa.org

This is a pretty good intro to read about autox from tirerack.com:
http://www.tirerack.com/features/solo2/handbook.htm

Basic info about rules and what car classifications:
www.moutons.org
..though this is not updated as of a few years ago so if you want the most accurate info, refer to the www.scca.org for official rules

If you have any questions about autoxing, I'm your guy to go to. Autox has been gaining popularity and filling up fast in the Boston BMW club. I'm suprised more of you guys don't try it. It's an extremely low budget way to use all your cars for what they were made for... driven hard!

Never been down that way but horseneck beach doesnt sound too far from Bourne.

Would be a good way to get some shakedown runs in the rx7 and try to learn how to drive this beast.. too bad they dont have one at otis.. hell I'de walk there if I couldent get the car running

I don't think there's been any autox events at Horseneck for many years. Even if they did, I wouldn't want to race on that parking lot. Have you seen it? I can picture huge chunks of asphalt flying all over the place. Otis used to hold them a looooooooong time ago too. Fort Devens up in Ayer MA is where they are all held. I think the next closest ones are in CT, but I heard they suck.

i've always wanted to try autocross, but i worry its gonna put way to much stress on my car. my car has close to 120k on the clock now.

It's not any worse than aggressive street driving. Street compound tires can get 2-3 years worth of use with like 6-7 events + daily driving. Performance street brake pads with fresh fluid and decent blank rotors are preferred. You might get a few cone marks on the paint, which most come off without any problems. Just make sure the oil is good and changed. It's cheap to do and typically a pretty much stock car has an advantage over a seriously modified one due to classification.

Road racing is another story and autox isn't even in the same realm as rr. Safety is a bigger concern in rr because if something is wrong then you won't just go off into the grass or knock a few cones down, you usually have a wall to worry about hitting at higher speeds smile.gif

I was close to signing up for a road race driving school this season, but I will do my homework a little more and try it next year. I'm a little concerned about safety in my Camaro with a few things.

Looks like NER recently had an autox at Horseneck beach for the first time in many years this past weekend. It was a non points event. I'm not sure if they will have any more. I didn't see any on the site event calendar. I would imagine the summer will make it harder to hold autoxes there since people will be going to the beach.

I would be down to go wathc sometime, post up the days in meets and well see if a bunch of us could go.
BryanH
My friend Scott who runs in them mentioned he doesn't think they will have any more this year. At least not during the summer when people will be using the lot to park to go to the beach
J Kellz
we have some in rhode island, at the old air force base near the beach. i believe its once every month or once every two weeks
