Well, I stumbled upon this on a Jeep forum I'm on, and am seriously contemplating doing this.... apparently the Jeep Cherokee is not dead, it lives on in China where it's known as the Jeep 2500... it's not actually made by Jeep tho, it's made by a company called Bei Qi Motors and sold only in China... Bei Qi was a partner with Chrysler back in the day and acquired the dies and tooling for the Cherokee after Jeep ceased production of it... outer body is 97-01, interior is a mix of 92-96 leftovers, the front clip is unique to it... and it's powered by a Mitsu 2.5 4banger.. anyways, the front clip is a direct bolt on to my 88 Comanche, all the body lines will match up and I can get all the parts shipped from China for probably about $300-400.... so the question is, do I wanna make this
look like this
? discuss.

I dont like it. Its too...idk flashy sorta looking for the old boxy xj/mj body style. But Im also not going to tell you to switch to a 97-01 front end either.

it is a bit flashy, almost like a zj, but in reality tho the 97-01 exterior isn't really all that different from the 84-96... the body lines are all the same, but the body is just a lil bit more rounded off in the front and back... you could easily remedy the "dated" look on the outside but putting a set of 97-01 doors and rear fender flares on it, and being that its a pickup and not an suv theres no real issue with a rounded front clip and a square rear section, just the taillights, IMO... and later on down the road if i got the itch, i could always throw a 97-01 interior in it... it's a bit of work, but a bunch of people on the forums i'm on have done it, it's not impossible..

I get what youre saying. In all honesty ive seen a few mj's with the 97-01 conversion in the front and they look bad ass. It might not be much different but there is enough difference to make it look good.

My 98 looks better than my 92 did. But my 92 was a tank.

yeah i had it planned out to do the 97-01 nose swap, but then i found out about the 2500..... i think it'd be badass cuz i'd have the only Comanche around here with that nose on it.... plus the added perk of being able to say i've got a JDM Jeep lol
The Onion
yeah i could see why youd want to do it. Its not my cup of tea but its not my truck. Id give you props for doing it to be different though..

just remember its a product of china LOL

UPDATE!!!!

ok, i've talked to a few people that went through with the swap, and here's the skinny: the 2500 fenders are junk.... about 1/4 of the thickness and quality of u.s. oem fenders, sloppily welded and also there is no hole for the radio antenna... both of the people i talked to used u.s. oem fenders, and cut out the part of the 2500 fender where the headlight fits in and welded it in to the u.s. one. doing this also eliminates the t/s bulb in the middle of the fender which i didn't really like anway. the header panel is actually beefier than the u.s. one... and the bumper is too much of a pita to use, so you just use the oem one. and now for the bad... the hassle of shipping the stuff from china.... parts total is about 160, shipping is between 500-600 and will take forever to ship if ordering only one set because it comes by container ship and they wait until they have enough orders to fill an entire container before shipping it. over on naxja.org they actually have done 2 group buys, which spreads the shipping cost out over a number of people, but the last one was like 2 months ago and i missed it, and i have no idea if or when they will be doing another one.. if they do another group buy in the future, i'll probably order it all up then, ... but here's pics of an mj with the swap done to it and waiting for paint...

Terrence
