How much room is thre in the back out the mid 80s Monte SS? Im trying to compare it to the room Ihave in the back of my camaro. Do the Montes have a bench style seat or just 2 bucket style seats with a hump in the middle?
Id like to see if its worth it for me to transfer my drivetrain into one of these and be able to put my kids back there for a somewhat comfortable ride for them.

there was alot of room in my buddies 83. but it wasnt an SS. at least compared to my 86 firebird. (i thought so anyway) its been years since ive been in either car though.

I believe all SS came with bucket seats. some came with a floor shifter some column shifter. They are very roomy in the back. Their would be no problem holding your kids.

brad, chris over at SDCE Has an 88 monte SS I believe. Black, but his has a gray interior. Procharged putting out like 590. Definitely enough room for your kids. I say go for it!

Hmm, Id have to check it out sometime. IF I decided to try this out, I would want the grey interior.

I keep saying the same thing over and over again. I just dont know what to do at the moment. I cant really take my kids out since the back of my car is basically just for looks. I cant recline my seats back due to the cross bar. My kids feet are cramped in the back. I dont want to part with it but I also want to be able to go out with my family once in a while and not have them wanting to puke after 5 minutes.

Get a stock family car like a monte and keep the camaro as a toy.

if youre looking for a family car, why not get something better suited as a family car?
monte will have room for what you need, but why not go with something better?

I have to try to reuse as much as I can from this car to save as much money as possible. I will NEVER get anywhere close to the money I put into this car so I might as well try to reuse as much as I can and then just part out the rest. Thankfully, 95% of my money is in the drivetrain and that will swap over

for what youre going to spend on a monte thats in decent shape you can get a nice family car.
while not maybe in your cars youre lookin for list. my bonneville would make an awesome family car. its very comfortable and its fun to drive. has the power where i need it and does well on gas.
3000$, loaded, 110k miles when i bought it.
for a decent monte and to get it to look and drive like you want, itll probably cost about the same or more.

ya and all these options keep popping up in m yhead and I cant decide. My wife also needs another SUV pretty soon so I have to get her something nice and reliable. I can deal with driving a project car/truck. I CANT afford 2 new cars in the driveway though.
Another option I keep thinking about is buying a late 80s earl 90s silverado and putting my engine in that. The slight issue with that is the ext cab trucks have no room in the back for kids to sit in the car seat and finding a 4 door model is hard. I just need something that will be cheap to work on and have plenty of room for my needs

i had an '87 monte LS, the back seat was quite roomy... i could fit up to 4 of my friends in it if i needed to.... and i currently have a '95 k1500 ext. cab... the backseat, while kind of small for adults will easily accomodate kids with car seats.... but if you're gonna get an ext. cab, get a 99 or newer because before that they didnt have the back doors.

I'd love to get a 99+. I use to have an 01 2500 HD with the ext cab and loved it. Just dont have the money to spend. My wife needs something before I do. How much room is there in your 95? Can a 8 year sit behind the driver and be somewhat comfortable? Can i get a car seat in the back on the passenger side?

i'm 5'6 and can sit in the backseat fine, legroom is a little tight but bearable, and i've had a car seat in it.. it fits fine but putting it back there without the opening back door is a bit of a pita..
